Pixar's first flat-out bad movie feels like the half-baked cash-grab that it is. Unless you're a hardcore Pixar completist, skip it.

Mater as a character is like someone out of Veggie Tales. Whenever he influences the plot it's a loss; He just isn't very well written, interesting or likable. It's saved by some great spy action, and Caine/Mortimer's fresher, more engaging characters prove that this should never have been a sequel in the first place. It could well have been Cars 2, but with all-new characters, as the old hands seem to be in the way more than anything. I give it a pass, but by Pixar standards it's disappointing.

Okay... let me get this right. You take the comic release from the first movie and make him the main character in the second movie. I'm not really sure... scratch that I AM sure that Larry the Cable Guy do NOT have what it takes to carry a movie on his own. All in all not a bad movie, but it lacks that special touch a Lasseter movie often has. In all honesty this movie reminds me a lot of when Joey Tribiani moved to California and I think we all know how that went.

Yes, yes, it's a kids film and that certainly can explain the simplistic plotting and terrible attempts at comedy. It doesn't explain just how inconsistent the whole world feels, to the point of being creepy and distracting. It also doesn't explain how a film with such intricate construction, which it clearly has despite being simplistic, can be such and incoherent mess. The conclusion is a mashup of conflicting themes that can't be satisfying to anybody.

Expectation is the worst thing for a movie. With Pixar, regardless of age or gender, you expect quite a bit. The original 'Cars' just barely reached that plateau that Pixar regularly resides, 'Cars 2' falls quite short. I'd expect this quality from the 'Shrek' franchise, but from Pixar, it's a disappointment. Tow 'Mater is the star of the film this time around, but the lessons learned are similar to what you'd find in any other kid's movie coming out this summer. Great visuals aren't enough.

A completely unnecessary sequel, but it's far from the worst movie of the summer. The races lack any sort of dramatic weight (found myself wishing I was watching Speed Racer), and Mater's spy-story is like Mater himself -- kind of annoying. Still there are a lot of clever touches, and the movie has a few imaginative & gorgeous action sequences. Why did this get made? Because the original sold EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS in merch. If that money helps Disney/Marvel buy back Spider-Man, I'm cool with it.

I'm not sure what Pixar was thinking when they wrote Cars 2. This doesn't add any depth to any of these already fairly shallow characters, even if the friendship between Lightning and Mater is allowed to be explored. The addition of Michael Caine to the voice cast is fine, but his character is basically a plot device for Mater to exploit. It will entertain the younger audience for a while, but Cars 2 doesn't do enough to separate itself from non-Pixar animated films.

Why Pixar decided to make a sequel to what was clearly their least well received & least box-office profitable movie is a sadly no mystery... merchandise sales! Worst of all Pixar abandoned a new project for this! So potentially this shitfest cost us another "Up" or "WALL·E". Only the opening scene is of any real worth, afterwhich it's downhill fast! Laughs are rare, characters are shallow & irritating, & the settings bland. Sad giving a Pixar flick only a T2 score!

Great scenery and animation, but it lacks the human side of other Pixar movies. The usual complexity that the previous films had is overshadowed by a spy plot that is difficult to understand for children and very repetitive and superficial for grown ups.

I was expecting not to like this movie since I never made it through the first Cars movie. I thought this one had a little faster pace and a funny story. Larry The Cable Guy did a great job as the lead role in this. It was interesting to find out that Lightning McQueen wasn't as prominent of a character in this. The whole spy story was kind of funny with the worlds worst cars banding together in an evil league. The Yugo reminded me of the car in the Nick and Nora movie. It wasn't great but fun.

There's still a lot to appreciate here, of course. The animation sparkles with typical Pixar pride and precision. If you're expecting another movie like the first Cars, you're going to be disappointed. This movie is much more action oriented, sticks Mater as the main character, and goes for a more James Bond type theme. It tries to take a moral out of the story, but in my opinion fails hard. It's enjoyable, but shallow and Mater is just hard to not find annoying at times.

The only Pixar putting I can safely say I don't really like? I'm not sure what the writers were thinking with this one. Mater works way better as a side character than a protagonist of a movie. Decent sequel to Cars that's perfectly enjoyable but suffers from a little too much action and the decision to put Mater in the limelight. It's another Pixar HD treat, with gorgeous scenery and gleaming detail on the cars themselves. They might possess eyes but it's the subtle movements of the vehicles, matching the line delivery perfectly, that gives them life. Made me wanna play a car racing video game after - I dunno if that's good or bad.

This film is certainly not a waste of their time, but it does seem to lack the heart and passion of all other Pixar projects. A big problem with it, I think, was that they made the comic relief character in the first film (Mater) into the main character in this one. Something about that just doesn't work. It had some cute moments and beautiful animation, but I expected more from John Lasseter, the director of Toy Story (1995).

Along with the first film, "Cars 2" is PIXAR's black sheep and definitely its silliest product. But still, it's a perfectly acceptable diversion. The animation is gorgeous and although the storytelling isn't as smooth as usual, the plot moves at a brisk pace and the visuals dazzle. The humor is strictly lowbrow, but there are some chuckles -the whole thing is just so extravagantly dumb that it becomes hilarious. Anxious for the company's future though, quality-wise.

Cars 2 is about as perfectly mediocre as the first Cars movie. It rips off either a movie or a genre of movies -- in this case, spy/James Bond movies -- it'll entertain the kids, it has a couple of on-the-button themes, and it is serviceable but not a necessary watch. One can't help but think cynically about why it was made, given the merchandise sales the first film did, but we still got a movie that's not a chore to watch, even if it's not up to most of Pixar's previous movies.

Car 2 takes a NASCAR movie and turns it into a series. I think I liked the first movie more but this movie focuses more on Larry The Cable Guy's Mater character who mistakenly becomes a spy. I don't think he did a good job of carrying the movie. This sequel brings back many of the characters from the first movie but they take a backseat to Michael Caine and John Turturro's additions to the cast. I found there to be a sweet message in the movie about being who you are. The spy story was fun too.

Reliably cheerful Pixar fun is gently witty and enjoyable, without being particularly taxing; memories of Part 1 are vague at this point, but I believe this to be more exciting and fast-paced, benefiting from Caine and Mortimer who liven the spy subplot so much so that I could have done without Wilson's bland McQueen & Co! No world-beater, but a bright and colourful ride, with even modestly sophisticated writing (though at least one scatological gag gets through!)

Amazingly enough, not as bad as Cars 3, but still not a good movie. Mater just isn't funny, interesting or likable enough to carry a film by himself, and the rest of the returning cast have essentially been relegated to background cameos. There are a few funny moments of charm and humor, but it's mostly wasted on an insipid spy story with dull, irritating characters. Not the worst thing ever, but well below the standard of quality you'd expect from Pixar.

Yeah it's Pixar's worst movie, but it's not that far below the original film in terms of quality. The animation is pretty great, and the film is not without some engaging sequences and a couple of funny moments, but it's also doubtlessly one of Pixar's weakest. Surprisingly - and unfortunately - the protagonist here is the overbearing Mater, while the plot and themes are way too familiar and basic (like a cross between your typical live action spy flick and a severely watered-down version of what Pixar had done before), thus the stakes are pretty low and the emotional engagement minimal.

Cars 2 is definitely a step down from its predecessor and it's my least favourite Pixar film. The first film was enjoyable but by no means Pixar's best work. And although theres still fun to be had with this sequel, here it just feels like Pixar care about ideas rather than story telling. And the result is something of a muddled mess. So here's the sequel to Pixar's most divisive film, and I'm sad to report the coat doesn't shine as brightly this time. Cars 2 bares no resemblance to Pixar's other works apart from the striking animation; it lacks humor, heart and wonderment. It's fun, yes, but we don't love you for just fun, Pixar. I know we all take missteps, even slight ones like this. Dust yourselves off, get out of the car and back on the horse, you guys. We still love you, we still want you, and we'll all go see Brave.

Probably the worst Pixar movie, but still enjoyable compared to other movies. The sequel was kind of unnecessary. The Mater jokes got old after a while. The first movie worked better because it didn't raise so many of the "if there are no humans, why do these things exist" questions, but this movie is full of those which are kind of annoying. Cars just aren't as fun as toys or robots. Hopefully this is the end of the franchise and Pixar can focus more on original movies.

Pixar always excelled in having good clear plots about characters wants vs needs, which are inline with the characteristics of their inherent nature . A small part of this still does, which focuses purely on racing on a story about racing and friendship. But most of the movie is taken up by an uninspired Bondesque plot in it that just happens to have cars in it. Mater was tolerable in the previous movie as comic relief, as a lead he becomes irritating.
