Guy likes to imagine chicks naked. The particularly pretty ones he also likes to touch. But he paints many pictures of them so it's not creepy, but fucking romantic. If this sounds right to you, you'll love this movie. "There's beauty in everything. For example, in naked young attractive women. And in other stuff as well, we're sure"

Writing yourself in as the main character is nothing out of the ordinary. Doing it just to flesh out your rape fantasies is a bit much though.

Boring. Slow. Uneventful. Extremely dumb plot. Unlikable main character. Pretentiously artsy. Subplots that go nowhere. Casually creepy ending. Even the whole gimmick the movie is based on is barely used at all. I very rarely feel like I wasted my time after watching a movie, and this is one of those times. I fail to see what others appreciated about Cashback.

I haven't seen the short film, but I imagine it works better in that format than as a feature. There is a good deal of charm and some cleverness here, but it fleshes out the story with some silly stupidity and, even worse, the rigid formulae of every romantic comedy ever (especially in the last half hour).

This had some humorous moments, the premise was strong, the cinematography was nice, it had a likable sort of thematic exploration, and boobs. But I can't help be bothered that all of the talk of art is this movie is just Ben's rationalized horniness. "The female form has always been a great source of fascination." Yeah, I'm sure it has. Also, is that honestly the best use you can find for a genuine god damn super power? Really, nude sketches?

This movie maintains its pace from start to finish. The narrative of this movie makes you associate with the dreamy feeling of the main character of this movie Ben Willis. The movie has its own charm with good acting by all of the actors. The movie has its occasional slapstick humor but overall a worth watching.

A pretty unnecessary film that is nevertheless very well made. Stylish and visually pleasing, with pleasant nods to other cinematographical achievements before it. Doesn't really add anything to the already existing short though, but simply wraps a generic romantic comedy around it. Watch that instead, as it is far better. Whilst the short is set in something of a nonexistent space, when set in reality within another story world the freezing time doesn't make as much sense.

This is a very unbalanced film. On the other hand I really enjoyed the parts about the main character's childhood but I still can not forgive the unimaginative and lazy plot. The film's message seemed to be that you can get the girl of your dreams by being a total creep. Yeah... Wouldn't probably work in real life. The acting was alright, though.

A movie that's so unconventional, sometimes really dreamy (insomnia!), sometimes funny, and most often very straightforward. It is filmed in an easy, dreamy tempo so at first it barely looks a tad different than a classical teeny comedy. But for me it really featured so much more under the skin which, rounded with a good play (Shaun Evans and Emilia Fox really fit in) and some neat, new approaches to film nudity and camera work, make Cashback an enjoyable experience.

I can imagine most people who dislike this movie because of "oMg So0 much nudity it's gratuitous and unseemly" are the same kind of people who think sex is a sacred act with divine purposes, and should be shielded from the eyes of the young. Then there are the smarter, less insecure people who dislike this movie because it's silly, self-important, a bit redundant, and falls into the same old melodramatic romance trap like many others before it.

Lots of nudity but it all has a purpose and the film does explore the sensual and, for comparison, the unsensual. It does mesh a few genres together which I don't think work perfectly. On the one had you've got some immature humor but then you've got a coming of age story, completely devoted to the discovery of the nude female form which is handled in a mature manner. I don't think they blend together as well as the director would've liked but this is still a good film worth seeing.

This well-crafted film with an interesting premise (borrowed from Nicholson Baker's "The Fermata") falls down badly because of an unevenness of tone - it doesn't know if it wants to be a moving art film or a sweet, quirky comedy. It basically failed for me because the lead's fantasy life wasn't that far from his real life.

In my opinion an interesting twist between unbelievable shoddy themes, a youth comedy like scary movie and a death-sad and pretty deep lovestory, which isn't continued to it's last concequences though. All in all, the film leaves an uneven impression and maybe it would have been better off with only one of the three themes sufficently treated, preferredly the strongest one in my opinion, the deep lovestory part and some of the very beautiful pictures the film has.

The weakest moments are obviously in the traditional structures of drama and comedy, but then we are introduced to the concept of freezing time (which is more of a clever trick to make time pass by quicker) and the excellent narrations accompanying the exhilaration of undressing the women in the supermarket so that Ben can draw them. The film never seems to reconcile the conventional elements with this subplot, but it never takes itself seriously enough for that to matter.

there's a scene in cashback in which the main character walks in a striptease club. at that moment you see the scene from the eyes of ben, you don't see the nude stripper as something to be aroused by, you see her as a form of art herself, and you realize how strong the movie conveys this feeling, and how romantic, funny and introspective this movie is. cashback is a flawed movie with certain aspects of the script lacking coherence, but it's a charming one nonetheless.

If you've watched this, you've seen the entire original short as well. Successfully expanding it into a feature, just about as good, it adds more poetic scenes (the narration is very good) but also draws a bit too much on convention for the new romantic plotline.

A weird romantic comedy with all the usual female elements, but told from the male perspective. The direction and acting are good. It's cute and personable but somehow unsatisfying. Cashback has a lot of neat ideas sprinkled through but lacks the driven structure of an actually compelling story. It starts on a high note but loses steam through midway, since ts cast of quirky characters and funny tidbits would probably suit a sit com series. That said, the sequences about Ben's childhood are quite good, and the movie is pretty entertaining from a male point of view, (literally and figuratively).

The light tone helps this film. Humor is sometimes predictable, but overall it's nice. I thought the film was enjoyable, aside from the horrible cheesy ending. Morally speaking this is a horrendous film. Fantasy and real life are two different things, undressing women without their consent is wrong, doesn't matter if you classify it as art. The way it is romanticized here disgusts me. Women are more than their bodies and this film only shows beauty in beautiful looking women, how insightful...

As he showed with The Broken, Ellis has a knack for pretty compositions and mildly elliptical, atmospheric editing rhythms, but his scripts are just awful. Stupid, uninteresting characters, an unspeakably dumb plot, bad attempts at comedy, leaden pacing and a lack of structure that had me looking at the clock out of boredom thinking it must be over soon and seeing it had half an hour left. I'm convinced this guy has a masterpiece in him if he can just find someone to write a decent screenplay.

Capricious in it's execution, it managed to maintain a pleasant glibness that accompanied a equanimity of metaphysicality and corporeal realism. The film wasn't molded to a succinct identity, and instead decided to take on a manifold of distinct personalities and gyrated around a pendulum of a blackened artisan comedy orbiting the crass orthodoxy of a vacuous kitch. In essence, it's a visually bursting film with a uniquely moving perspective of the female anatomy and form .

Cashback meanders its way through its plot, coming to a clichéd yet pleasant end. The film's exploration of the perception of time is interesting, occasionally panning through a frozen world as Biggerstaff narrates his character's thoughts. Interspersed between these moments is the plot that shifts from obsession to football game to antics with colleagues to RomCom, without much focus. While pretty to look at, the ephemeral tone and unbelievable characters make it an unmemorable watch.

Starts out well, with a snappy, cock eyed sense of humour about itself, but frustratingly never shifts into focus – there are some good isolated vignettes (clearly written by someone who knows the drudgery of 9 to 5ers!) and a likable cast, but the whiplashing of tones and characterisations becomes wearying after a while - the hopelessly contrived incident in the final reel that drives our lovers apart is a big clunker (and the connection between Biggerstaff and Fox is never truly convincing).
