This is simultaneously the best work I've seen my one-time favorite actor Kevin Spacey do in a long time and also indicative of his fall from grace. Apparently he knows he is (or at least was) a gifted actor and he frequently goes overboard. In this film, I actually think it's part of the tone Hickenlooper's going for, as Barry Pepper's performance is perhaps even more all-out. It's a decent but neither particularly involving nor very funny film. Lovitz' escape move was pretty hilarious, though.

The best part about this film was definitely Kevin Spacey and his performance. He's really great. Otherwise, I didn't care too much for it. It wasn't a bad film at all. I just find politics wildly uninteresting and that's basically what it was about. It's based on true events, so if you know about Jack Abramoff or are interested in politics and such in general, I'd recommend it. Besides that, not so much.

Another low quality Kevin Spacey movies in recent years, that is mostly passable.

Over the top generalizations and exaggeration run its biased politics into the ground. I was a fan of both Spacey and Pepper but I don't think I'll be able to wash their part in this out of my mind.

I don't know how much of it's true, but at least they failed to add anything interesting. Spacey and Pepper do a decent job but both are far from their prime.

Interesting look at lobbyism and a Spacey in top form. Still not that funny and not that much of a social commentary. Despite their similiraties, this movie is very far from being as exciting as Recount was, a movie I would recommend any day, if you're in the mood for a political movie.

Second viewing: Spacey is actually quite entertaining here, and Barry Pepper does a nice job too. Forgettable script but the casting and acting are actually quite good.

Great performance by Spacey, though the movie itself drags at times.

"The film seems determined to make Jack Abramoff halfway redeemable, a questionable goal given the real-life damage the man wrought, no matter how much the system may have been to blame." - Andrew Schenker

Kevin Spacey play the same type role he has done numerous times before but he is very good at it. The rest of the cast is good here, it is nice to see Jon Lovitz in a good supporting role.

Spacey seems to think he's making a comedy -- a good actorly instinct -- but director George Hickenlooper makes the offensive decision to treat Abramoff's transgressions as more grist for the Bush-grinding mill.

Exposing real crime is rarely so full of suspense, but this movie does a fine job of detailing the events in an interesting way. Acting is good, but the subject matter is not very engaging or entertaining. The movie attempts to document widespread corruption but only marginally succeeds in showing it.

"A mixture of light satire, light tragedy, political thriller, and domestic drama: a Casino Jack of all trades, a master of none."
