An interesting noirish melodrama that focuses a bit too much on the melodrama for my liking, particularly towards the end where things feel increasingly forced and unreasonable.

While I prefer Yvonne Sanson as a blond, as seen in Campane a martello [Alarm Bells] (1949), she's still a towering woman's figure that makes the melodrama in Catene [Chains] (1949) captivating. And alongside Amedeo Nazzari she gets a man that believably can handle her, even if there is a third party that disrupts their happiness. And how all that plays-out is what makes this good.
