Cattle Queen of Montana

My main reasons for watching this were for Barbara Stanwyck and to be able to see Ronald Regan in an acting role. Sadly the film turned out to be a disappointment, one that was sluggish and, despite attempts to show a positive portrayal of native Americans, extreme patronising (made worse by the fact that the Indian characters are actors painted up in dark colours). Regan doesn't stand out at all and the Technicolor cinematography managed to make Stanwyck visually ugly, a crime in on itself.

So awful, it's almost campy. Alas, only almost... The script is terrible--no wonder Robert Mitchum passed on it. So we get Ronald Reagan...why couldn't he have been content to be a moderately bad actor instead of becoming the terrible president that sowed the seeds of America's demise? I can't figure out why Stanwyck did this...was she THAT desperate for something to do? Awful musical score, too. The only good thing about this was the filming location in the most beautiful part of Montana.
