It doesn't really "go anywhere" in a sense. It's not full of hysterics. It doesn't go over the top, have some terrible scene that drastically changes the movie just to have it. It's Lawrence and Henry, both putting in great performances, getting to know each other, dealing with their shit. Lawrence is subdued in the best way, but you feel her frustrations. Henry is always sympathetic. I liked it a fair bit because they go together so well and drive the whole movie.

Causeway is an unapologetically intimate character story about two people fumbling their way to making a connection after experiences that have understandably made them retreat within themselves. And that’s more or less the whole of the movie, which is refreshing in its modest ambitions but affecting in its willingness to trust its characters are compelling enough that it won’t need twists or dramatic revelations.

Simple, small-scale drama which gains considerable power from Lawrence and Henry’s excellent performances and a screenplay which never overplays its hand, content to let the characters fumble and blunder their way through, without succumbing to a melodramatic “a-ha” moment. Tempting to lean on the cliché “they just don’t make movies like this anymore” but it’s true – rare to find a film content to rest on two damaged characters attempting an awkward resolution which may not necessarily come.

I'm a sucker for these small stories if they contain believable and honest performances. Causeway does just this. Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry are both fantastic in fairly subtle performances. It is very easy to see oneself in either of their situations and the film soars with this.

Subtle and quiet. An aching exploration of trauma and belonging. It pries more than cuts, gently scratching at its themes so that it gets to raw new skin by the end instead of a bleeding wound - imperfect, certainly; satisfying, not quite; thoughtful, undeniably.

Exactly what you’d expect from the premise, but done tastefully and without being cutesy or cloying. Bryan Tyree Henry is really, really wonderful in this.

Very nice small-scale drama. A good subtle script, but the performances are what make this movie - Lawrence is maybe the best she’s ever been, and Henry continues his trend of never not being stellar.

Quiet and taut. The two leads are perfect.

Brian Tyree Henry steals the show, I really agree on his oscarnomination. Emond is strong too as the mother. But the story feels written by AI - it makes logical sense, but doesn't feel like it's been taken from life. It's been taken from other movies or literature. Human writers writing like AI. But the biggest flaw in the movie is Lawrence herself, i suppose. A miscast, if you ask me.

Filmdeki arkadaş edinmeye çalışıyorum sözü beni etkiledi. Sakin ve güzel bir filmdi.

Great character work by the two leads, it's been a while since I've liked Lawrence this much in anything.

A tender, well-acted drama about the fragility of relationships. Perhaps a little too delicate and understated.

"Causeway" is a tender and thoughtful film that moves to the slow melody of a slice-of-life character drama. Lawrence and Henry's stirring performances elevate the material and make for a captivating watch. It's a refreshing change of pace for Lawrence, and a reminder of her prodigious talent.

A small but meaningful film about friendship anchored by excellent performances by Lawrence and Henry. Lawrence might have gotten an Oscar nom for his in a less stacked year. It's very subdued, but in a good way, and as a double character study and a study of a friendship it works well. At just over 90 minutes including beginning and end credits, it's also just the right length for this story and doesn't drag itself out.

Expertly acted and it dilutes the depressing nature and serious tone with some well placed moments of levity. Worth watching for the effortless chemistry of the leads. Has its flaws, but a well made indie. 6.7

Causeway is a familiar, predictable little story and it could have been a much better "healing" movie. Brian Tyree Henry was good. Jennifer Lawrence was great, continuing to prove that she is one of the best actresses of her generation.

Causeway is small, human, and handled with care. It's quiet and troubled, as the main characters perpetually process their trauma. Nothing gets resolved, nobody is healed, but that is the human condition. I recommend it overall, but there were opportunities to do so much more.
