John C Reilly basically carries the first half of the movie, but once the rest takes off it gets surprisingly funny with characters you care about more than the average comedy.

I really liked it. It was funny (especially Reilly) and even though there were some relatively cliched parts it isn't the stuff that is annoying enough to take you out of the movie. It could have been longer and given us a few slightly more well rounded characters. Although, I wouldn't have wanted anything more with the three friends Helm's character makes because they go to this convention in Cedar Rapids to cut loose and not act like themselves. A good movie worth seeing.

Feels like a 3 hour long movie, was incredibly surprised to find out it was only 86 minutes. That's probably the worst endorsement a film can receive btw. Starts out so horrific and the main character is really unlikable and his transformation is obvious and cliched. Obviously the highlight is John C. Reilly. Tries way too hard and fails miserably.

Typical bumbling oaf story who inexplicably attracts the attractive girl, but it all enables a lot of humorous moments, the movies strong point. John C. Reilly is a hoot. Isiah Whitlock plays a staid character which sets up one of the funniest lines in the movie. Some will object to the drug use, and I question its cavalier attitude toward fidelity in a comedy. Ed Helms definitely needs a strong supporting cast.

Any movie that mentions the Wire is okay with me. At first I thought this was only an okay comedy, and in some ways it is: cliches, Tim wasn't really that funny (it was mostly stupid). But I enjoyed it more than I first realized... it's a charming little comedy, the actors play off each other well. It's not consistently funny, and you might go long portions without a laugh, but there were some really good laughs in there.

An understated, effortlessly enjoyable little comedy with solid performances across the board from Helms, Reilly, Whitlock Jr., Heche, and Shawkat.

I love a lot of these guys. I love comedy in general. Unfortunately, you'll be hard pressed to find much in the way of comedy here.

This movie shows strong hints that it could be a pretty funny, somewhat good satire of the midwestern american mentality, but at every approach it pulls back, every time something nearly real happens, its sabotaged by poor slapstick/record scratch moments.

Disappointing. The characters are all a little too big for what seemed like a movie highlighting an eccentric microcosm of Americana. The main offenders are Ed Helms and John C. Reilly. Reilly is just a tad too obnoxious, while Helms, the film's supposed leading man, is very uneven. At the film's convenience, Helms's character switches from being extremely dim-witted to intelligent-but-naive.

A funny little comedy, but struggles to be anything more. I LOVE Ed Helms, but I wonder if he can pull off a lead. My thought is no. The supporting cast is good, and Reilly is...well, Reilly. This does the small town oaf well, but I didn't love the morality route as it came off very cliche. The Wire jokes had me rolling.

Someone on here called this the anti-Hangover - that's pretty much spot on. This is a good-hearted film that gets laughs out of its easy-target characters but you still root for them. Reilly is great too.

Cedar Rapids is a little slight, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing in this case; it's a good-natured, fun comedy that maintains an impressively consistent level of 'wryly amusing' throughout, and that's all that was really required. Ed Helms and John C Reilly are both great.

Not constantly hilarious, but it has a sweet charm that I really enjoyed. The entire cast works well together, Reilly being the standout. Some of Helms' mannerisms gave me flashbacks to socially inept interactions from my youth. Awkward.

Sort of the opposite of 'Young Adult', one of my favourite movies from 2011. Has some mildly funny parts (that all involved Isiah Whitlock Jr. and "The Wire") but mostly it's just formulaic. Just another "middle aged man finally comes of age" movie.

This is a light, forgettable comedy that highlights a lot of what I like about Ed Helms, not to mention the always welcome John C. Reilly, but fails to remain lastingly humorous with its drunken escapades or enlightening in its corporate criticisms. I think there's a running contemporary theme in many movies that addresses the dichotomy between small-town America and urban America. It's here, and it's kind of interesting, but not to the degree I've seen it elsewhere.

A fish out of water story where Ed Helms, a insurance salesman from a small town, heads to the big city of Cedar Rapids for a insurance conference. The laughs in this film were few and far between. I did like Anne Heche (she was from Omaha, NE) and it was good to see Alia Shawkat from Arrested development. John C. Reilly really stole the show. I especially liked the pool scene where he used a trashcan lid as a divers helmet. I just wish this movie would have been better.

Kind of the anti-Hangover. It's a movie about debauchery but it keeps it at normal people levels and it doesn't really make the characters out to be horrible people.

Ehn, I dont even remember what happened in this movie and I just finished watching it. The colour tone is so AUTUMNY throughout, John C Reilly is the only interesting thing. I don't ever want to watch Cedar Rapids again, but it was a solid, solid film. Arteta's work complements the almost annoyingly charming script, as do the performances by Helms and especially Whitlock who, by the way, I absolutely loved. However, Reilly is really the only source of big laughs, but even then, there aren't many.

This is certainly a movie. Despite a good cast and decent enough premise, this movie just... happens. It's not funny enough, or dramatic enough, to be recommendable. That's not very good for a rom-com.

Funny, likeable, and it doesn't drag or make you cringe when it's not being funny. Though it does lean a little too heavily on cliché, especially "dumb rube in the big city". Helms is kind of a non-entity, especially as a lead, but he's surrounded with interesting character actors, so it doesn't really matter.

A mature movie about immaturity. A comedy about a lot of possible gross moments but it keeps its heart above sillyness at all times. Helms may not be able to carry the movie alone but he can rely on his costars to make it entertaining.

This kinda comes off like the extroverted, upbeat younger brother of Reilly's THE PROMOTION. The setting/setup is pure Midwestern corporate dreariness, with more than a few nuggets of slice-of-life truth, but it's filled with fun characters and affable antics, and it moves at a snappy pace. Some genuine belly-laughs, but mostly, you find yourself experiencing some honest affection for these folks. One of 2011's stronger comedies.

Mostly a lot of stupid humor following a naive insurance salesman on his first business trip. Nothing much was convincing, but it was moderately entertaining, having enough silly events to keep you watching, and the occasional charming moment. Nothing was particularly intelligent, or new, but I got a chuckle or two. For every one good thing there are two bad, so not that hot.

A very underrated comedy that had me laughing more than I ever expected. John C Reily, Anne Heche, and Clay Da- i mean Isiah Whitlock were perfect casting choices to work around the dry childish character Tim Lippee played by Ed Helms. It started off slow but quickly became this great situational comedy with subtle humour and great delivery all-around.

The script is nothing riveting, what with the mostly obvious characterization and the surface commentary on the insurance industry, but the cast is really good and, in its small duration, the film manages to carry the viewer away and maybe even strike a heart-warming mood here and there.

The appeal here is what a school trip is to teenagers - the possibility of unlicensed drinking, flirting and lame dirty jokes. Adding that innocence to an insurance salesman conference in which supposedly grown men live out a momentary release from their boring lives provides us with a giddy feeling of real companionship. It's square from the goodness of its heart.
