A curiously entertaining and quite offbeat take on the zombie genre, with some fine central performances, loads of imagination and a dark sense of humour. I liked Everett in this; can't remember seeing him in much else. The elements of comedy, gore, fantasy and drama do actually gel quite nicely. It is totally ludicrous, of course, but Soave and the cast handle it all very well and we're left with a charming and likeable film. Worth checking out.

What was with that cliffhanger (groan) ending? Unless I find out some deep meaning it's going to take away 10 points from an otherwise fun film with a catchy tune. Anna Falchi looked amazing. Fav scenes: first sex scene with her by her husband's grave; after Dellamore went to the doctor I thought he really went through with the surgery, so when new Falchi proclaimed she overcame her phobia of sex (stupid and poorly written reason) I thought the humor was that he no longer had a penis.

This really surprised me. It's a zombie movie, yes, but it's also a psychological character examination. And it actually succeeds at both. In the midst of decapitations and disembowelments, I didn't expect a well-crafted movie that genuinely made me think. But that's exactly what I got. Probably the most under appreciated zombie movie in existence.

I tried to like this movie, and actually did for the first half (the ossuary scene is fabulously ridiculous). Unfortunately, the second half was a bit too jumbled and disjointed for my tastes.

Highly entertaining and surprisingly philosophical, Cemetery Man stands out as a great effort in film-making while still being classified as a horror/zombie film. Truly a must-see for anyone who is a fan of the genre.

The best B-movie I have seen. A movie that not everyone will like because it is insane and philosophical, as the Dellamorte.

Highly enjoyable dark fantasy. The writing is terrific, genuinely funny with a surreal plot that shares elements with Brazil (hardly surprising when considering how Soavi and Gilliam have worked together before and after). Everett carries the film very well as the central character Francesco, fleshing out this weird yet natural character. I also adored the set which is absoloutely gorgeous and ties into the film's themes brilliantly. I liked a lot more but now I'm out of room!

This starts off as a typical, if somewhat fantastical, zombie slaughter flick with Rupert Everett as a cemetary caretaker destroying the undead with effortless detachment. Once he meets (the incredibly hot) Anna Falchi, his cozy little routine of zombie killing is upset, and his world deteriorates into an existential battle between love and death. Don't go into it just looking for splatter, this movie has a lot going on underneath the surface (plus some really nicely framed shots of gore).

Even if someone were to describe this movie to you and let you know that it is very unpredictable before you see it, I think that you would still be surprised by it to the point of maybe being disappointed.

Well that was something different. It's pretty gory, which I don't like, but it's also pretty funny and pretty weird. It makes for a very strange experience, but on the whole the positives outweighed the negatives. Rupert Everett really sells his role, and he does deadpan very well, which helps keep the film straddling that balance between horror and absurdity.

This is such a great and weird film, I love it to pieces! It's not the strangest thing on earth, but it's the certainly the most entertaining. Although I think it's crude to simply call it "entertaining." I never wanted this film to end. Yet I was very content with the ending, as bizarre as it may sound, it all made sense!

Suprisingly good acting for being as low budget as it is, good story for the most part until the end 15 minutes where it spirals out of control.

Stylish and original with a promising premise, it ultimately turns silly as it disappears up its own ass in the final act. Extra marks for Anna Falchi's boobs.

Loosely plotted but determinedly bizarre, this is rich in gallows humor, disgusto (though not groundbreaking) makeup FX, and a deadpan tone all its own. Manuel De Sica's deft score helps keep the demented story line bouncing along.

On my first watch I thought this was trying a bit too hard with the philosophical angle, but on giving it another try I found the screenplay much more tight and focused than I had given it credit for, and the lovely cinematography and awesome score very much recall the best parts of older Italian horror. It's really quite impressive.

Not the usual zombie film in any sense. It's a very surreal and unpredictable film, with equal parts dark comedy and just plain strangeness. Anna Falchi is perfectly cast for her multiple mysterious roles.

Hey look, another movie that so many movie geeks hold up as a five star masterpiece that I...sort of don't really get. I mean, it's not that this one is bad- because it's not. It's fascinating. Well-acted, well shot, some truly biting moments of dark humor, & one of the best dry overtones I have ever born witness to in a film. It's leagues above Stage Fright, that's for sure. None of it really makes sense, but it knows that from scene one & knows that you know it. So it's fun. Decent watch.

669/1000 Italian version of Evil Dead (in English). Absurdly grotesque, great comedy with a bit of drama. Mysterious ending warrants second watching. Anna Falchi is gorgeous, Ruper Everett resembles Bruce Campbell a lot. Good entertainment, slightly too long.

Seems to always be overrated. It's a well-made, funny, surreal horror film. Let it into your head as that, and it'll deliver the goods. It's not so much Citizen Kane, as it is Shaun of the Dead.

While I expect a lot of the humor to fall flat with most people (as it did with me), there are at least a handful of genuinely beautiful shots that make the movie at least visually poetic, until the literally-poetic ending. It's less enjoyable to watch as a horror-comedy than it is to watch as a surreal absurdist romance.

Schlock horror curio with some vibrant/stylised photography and fun zombie FX that looks great in the HD release. More watchable than most indie horror films and has its moments, mostly when giving in to ribald absurdity and weirdness, less so the overarching narrative (whatever it was). Appreciate the dream/nightmare grammar (perhaps, hard to say) but it's difficult to be engaged in the plot - such as it is - given how disinterested Dellamorte is in its proceedings. Such is life I guess!

Strange hybrid of 80s style fantasy horror and 70s Giallo is lumpy and incoherent, with performances that range from vampishly over-the-top to dull and pedestrian, yet there is a certain sense of style in the cinematography and set design that keeps things watchable, even through the incomprehensible plotting and characterisations (what’s the deal with the murder mystery subplotting?) Not essential for Everett completists simply because he is so uncharacteristically dull.

Could have been good as a horror. Looks cool. But goes for an increasingly whiny, nihilistic violent-boy drama with zombies, mixed in with very Italian nonsense weirdness and piss dialog and big breast implants with areolas that are somehow bigger than the boobs they're on. And Gnaghi is too effectively gross.
