I feel like Weisz's physicist character should have spent more time saying "How the hell did THAT just happen..." Dopey actioner finds Davis working through a checklist of greatest hits from THE FUGITIVE; while this plays on many of the same chase and action beats, Reeves is (as always) a fuzzy and wooden hero, and the roster of potential antagonists is so long and varied that the film struggles to gain a head of steam. Still has its charms (especially if you don't take it too seriously).

A thriller that's not entirely that thrilling. It's a movie that goes through the usual paces and has a lot of weird plot holes with professionals not really doing a very thorough job. It's got Keanu and Morgan, though, plus Rachel Weisz channeling a Mummy-style level of drunkenness that I could appreciate. Why nobody knew the frequency, though? Why doesn't Freeman's character ever actually smoke his cigarette? Why is it that when a guy gets into a fight, the woman will scream their name from

One or two decent action sequences don't bail out the messy script and terrible acting.

Action thriller starring Keanu Reeves, Morgan Freeman and Rachel Weisz. A pair of young research scientists are forced to go on the run when their discovery of a pollution-free energy process attracts the attention of some sinister characters.

It's probably bad when Spiderman 2 has a more realistic depiction of fusion energy than you do. Also, Keanu is surprisingly spry for a scientist. Lots of plot holes, predictable shit, and bullshit conspiracies. You can watch it for the chase scenes and the action sequences, but you can get the same from any similar movie.

I wasn't at all surprised to see the name Andrew Davis on this movie when I looked it up afterwards. The similarities to The Fugitive stood out constantly - the endless chases, helicopter shots, cold water immersion, homeless impersonation, scientists, the Chicago connection - even "The Janitor" from Scrubs is in there! The film may have not had a single original idea to add to the action genre, but the cast was good and I found it a decent light-hearted entertainment piece.

Shameless rip-off of The Fugitive made only slightly less shameless by the fact that it was directed by the same guy and was the first movie he made after The Fugitive. Clean, free energy, government/industrial sources want to stop it, Keanu on the run, blah blah blah.

Plays like a greatest hits of better moments from better Andrew Davis movies. Keanu does his best I guess.

Rewatched. This is a really bad movie that, brain turned off, can be a fun waste of 100 or so minutes. If you can get past the crap acting, goofball science, lazy jump cuts, and incoherent dialogue, there's good times to be had - mostly in watching Freeman and Cox spar, and in Fred Ward's hilariously smug performance, or spotting Michael Shannon as a flower delivery boy...

A typical 90s "man on the run" action thriller, but this one takes a bit too much suspension of disbelief about how Keanu Reeves a regular engineer can constantly escape the authorities or easily walk into heavily secured areas.

A mid-90s action movie paint by numbers, so bland I could barely make it through. The points I gave it are for the charisma of Reeves-Freeman-Weisz-Cox.

"Chain Reaction" is a thriller centered around a falsely accused man on the run, spiced up with a few action-packed scenes and a somewhat undercooked romantic angle.

Keanu and Morgan play it safe and solve the worlds energy crisis in the process. Very average action fun, but there is worse out there.

On the bland side of 90s action. It starts off pretty well but gets progressively more boring. Keanu's hair is terrible.

As much as I crave a return to movies that exist outside of pre-existing IP, time has not been kind to this style of flavorless thriller. Nowhere to go but down when you flatten a third of Chicago in the first 15 minutes.

I always wonder why a ”scientific” film wouldn’t want the science go even more or less correct; or, if not correct, at least internally coherent. Still, the main problem isn’t the scientific plausibility (the lack of), but the lack of internal coherence script- and plot-wise while watching science-Keanu drag his bewildered girlfriend around, trying to save the day. I did like the on location shooting, though: it made the film somewhat interesting/likeable.
