Chaiya

This is a powerful and gritty crime drama about the lives of three close friends who grow up and grow apart, but still remain loyal to each other in the slums and backstreets of Thailand. At first I thought this was going to be an action film and/or have weird comedic bits that are in so many of these Thai films, but instead what I witnessed was a great dramatic film with amazing low-key performances.

The concept of three brothers growing up and becoming fighters is a good one, and the flashy, youthful film-making style makes it seem at first that this is going to be a spectacular movie. However, in the long run, the story gets too complex and there are too many subplots, fights, revenge attacks, and everything happens 3 times. Needed a more focused story. Also, I don't mean to sound racist but this is another one of those movies where everyone fairly similar, and I can't tell who's who.
