Euch. Some films don't intrude and allow the audience to bring their own take and emotions to the table, but we get 'Changeling' delivered on a plate and are supposed to eat off of it. Ever since this came out, it's been pretty much downhill from here for Eastwood.

Whoa. Changeling excels in so many levels of filmmaking, the best it does this is the acting. Jolie and Malkovich are absolutely superb, and everything happening all feels so real. This is just a sorrowful, mind-bending true Drama that depicts the true events of a single mother trying to overcome her guilt, sadness and anger to save her son. One of the year's best.

On every level, Changeling is superb. It excels at telling an extraordinary story that seems to be very unmentioned in modern American history, despite its relative shock-value by comparison to other murder stories. The acting, pacing, and direction are all fantastic. I think it is one of the year's best.

A wonderful performance by Angelina Jolie, this film is a roller coaster of emotions that grabs you from start to end. It was only a few hours after seeing Changeling that it struck me that the story was a bit far fetched from time to time... only to discover that all of it actually happened and that (sadly) truth beats fiction, once again. Clint Eastwood is hereby included in the small realm of the really great, for his directing... ánd his composing.

Eastwood manages many mixed feelings and emotions out of "Changeling," at once frustrating and head-scratching, others brutal, spine-tingling, and dread-filled - this is one massive experience. As an actors showcase, a murder mystery, and emotionally-driven rollercoaster, it's quite a storm of talent and suspense with many directions- all handled well. Mixed critics' reviews can take a leap - this is one of year's very best films. It's as moving as they get.

Excellent work from Mr. Eastwood -- *again*. That man really shows his titanium balls here, even more so than he did when he made a movie that dared to portray Imperial Japanese soldiers in a sympathetic light. Everything works.

I hate to jump on the rave bandwagon, but damn this was a good movie, I thought it would be one of those "WE" movies that are unforgiveably depressing, with no entertainment quality, but apparently not. I was actually impressed on all fronts, Jeffrey Donovan, and John Malkovich in particular, but this movie was just exquisitely made.

~HOPE~ Really, though, that ending was so cheesy that it completely ruins the impact of the film. The problem is that for much of the film it's about the struggle against authority and corruption and has some surprisingly powerful scenes, where the kidnapping is more a catalyst than the central strand. The majority of the film is very good, and then the ending turns that around. It feels unjustified and against the flow of what precedes it.

Eastwood is now very used to giving audiences finely crafted films that don't seem to rise above "good." His direction is great in everything thing he does, but I wish he would push the envelope even a little. Changeling follows suit by giving us a fine narrative with some very good performances. Period.

In the beginning, I wasn't sure how the film was going to depart from the generic feeling it was providing. But as I was slowly drawn into the mystery, corruption, sadness and, at times, terror of the story, it began to dawn on me that Eastwood has no limitations as a director. Or if he does, I can't find any. The man is golden, his talent propelling him further and further up my favorite directors list.

They really failed at convincing the audience that she believed it was her kid at the train station. From then on, I couldn't help but think about this throughout the rest of the film. A few scenes tried to buy our sympathy which was unnecessary, let the acting and story do that.

Fascinating & gripping true story that provides an always necessary reminder at how far human and bureaucratic corruption can go in the name of protecting itself. What Michael Clayton might have been had it been based on a true story instead of a work of fiction. If your goal is to do an expose on corruption, a real-life example is always best, otherwise, no matter how you slice it, the corruption IS imagined. Eastwood ensnares u in a mystery in the first 10 minutes & left wonderingtill the end.

Exhausting. The basic setup is good material for an emotionally-charged drama, but there are times where this is like the most terrifying horror film imaginable. The film played out in such a way that I didn't really know what would happen. The notes were familiar but the arrangement made it surprising. It's just too damn good, why doesn't it get more attention?

I don't want to trash Jolie too much as I've already seen enough of her grief-stricken face. This film is one of those emotional tear jerkers, you can roll with them and be wowed or feel manipulated and be twitchy and uncomfortable. Unfortunately I was the latter. It looks beautiful, the story is powerful, but all too soon I felt forcibly grabbed by the wrist and pulled towards this or that emotion. And Jolie, despite her efforts, just felt like Jolie in period clothing.

With its straightly commercial style and naked attempts to simply freak the viewer out, lingering on the most visceral aspects of the story at the expense of pace and taste, it definitely crosses the line into "misery porn/murder porn" territory, but admittedly does so with skill, credibility, sincerity and meaning.

I've never liked Angelina Jolie, so for me to say that she's the strongest part of an Eastwood film should tell you just how disappointed I was. Everything is carefully planned and the cinematography is neat, but all the energy and the joy of filmmaking have been sucked out. Changeling is an hour too long, the whole serial killer part is uninteresting and unnecessary and Eastwood irritatingly leaves nothing up for interpretation, saying "this is how it went". Jolie will get an Oscar, no doubt.

It's well made, for the most part. Certainly very well acted. But when the story kind of splits in the second act, I think it was a real mistake to follow both parts of it equally. It made the film much darker than it needed to be, and took focus away from the most powerful part of it (her story, and the story of the other women). They needed to tell the other part, but could have been a lot more cursory about it.

Genuinely interesting real life story made somewhat plodding and overlong, surprising since unlike most true stories it arcs well and has a clear beginning and end. The focus on the mother seems to be done partially done to give Jolie the chance to do some ACTING! The atmosphere is a bit too quaint, deliberate, and typical of a period piece. Still it's a story worth telling, especially since if it wasn't real, the script would be derided as being unbelievable.

He also takes great pains to highlight a mother's dedication to her child and a minister's quest to clean up his town. But Eastwood's restraint is relative: Changeling still revolves around a psychopath who kidnaps and hacks up little boys in a chicken coop. We don't see the full scope of these children's pain. But we see enough. More than enough. (pluggedin.com)

Eastwood was due for a dud, and this stacks up as his flattest film, his stumpiest film, since _Blood Work_, bookending his hot streak of _Mystic River_, _Million Dollar Baby_, and the Second World War diptych, _Flags of Our Fathers_ and _Letters from Iwo Jima_. Time once again to take it easy.

Fine drama, but there is something about Eastwoods way of directing, an almost stubborn refusal to rise above solid craftsmanship. There's hardly a scene in the movie, where Jolie doesn't cry, but she's well cast, and the themes of abuse of power and motherly love are satisfactorily treated.

After seeing this you'll probably do the same thing i did - go to wikipedia to check if it is really a 'true story', because sometimes it is just too hard to believe. Also I don't know about acting of Jolie ("HE IS NOT MY SON!!!!"x11 gave me shivers in a bad way), but she looked really beautiful. Good work with costumes and hats and makeup. Conventions are followed very closely, so it is kind of un-exciting. It's like taking a trip on a very comfortable train but somewhere you have already been.

So self-flattering that Jolie actually receives an Academy Award at the end of the movie! (That's not a spoiler at all, I promise). And by "end of the movie", I mean one of the ends of the movie because this movie just did not want to stop. Angelina Jolie looks perfect for a 1920s gal! Absolutely amazing casting there! The story is also one of those gripping ones based on a true story. However I did feel the details in the writing was lacking in parts relating to the crime, as well as the absurd stubbornness of the police refusing the acknowledge it's errors. Showing that the police had some self insight might have helped. But naturally it told the unbelievable uphill struggle Jolie had in finding out the truth about her son.

Good acting. (Jolie is good, Harner is very good.) It felt a bit like a documentary, though. A kid goes missing, he is returned, but the mother says that it's not her child. This is the real event the movie is based on. When you think about it, it's not all that interesting. It's just about some sloppy police work and what happens after it. It is a great success that the filmmakers were able to develop it into a suspenseful drama, which nevertheless leaves you asking 'So what?'

The recreation of the '30s is superb. The acting varies in quality including some awful child acting as the film progresses. Unfortunately where as the beginning is kind of powerful, interesting and strong the ending left me feeling at least slightly apathetic. There are too many endings and whilst a film of a bigger scale can pull this off this film most definitely doesn't and loses alot of its power because of it.

This based-on-a-true-story period tale takes a while to get going, peaks in the middle, then falls away during the final third as it goes through the motions toward its inevitable conclusion. Good performances by all involved (particularly Jeffrey Donovan), it's just a shame the writing couldn't add a bit of spice to keep the tension up during and after the court scenes.

I am glad that this didnt happen as Angelina Jolie really didnt do justice to character of Christine Collins. The movie moves along in a slow pace as some of Clint Eastwoods other film.
