The final Warner Oland movie before his death. Warner Oland at Monte Carlo for his last case was hardly his best murder mystery, but it was one of the more funny ones because of the connection he and "Number One Son" Keye Luke has developed over the course of the series. "Action speak louder then French.... (tips his hat and walks away)" The down part was that half the dialogue was in French. Regardless it was for the most part a lively one thanks to all the comic stuff they did here.

I watched it to see what a Charlie Chan film was about. I don't know if this is among the best. Plusses: it was easy to follow, nicely shot and everything was clear enough. The Chan character had a certain presence with his affected dialogue delivery. Minuses: the moments of humour fell flat, and the characters were nothing to get excited about. The story was forgettable. Well, now I know who Charlie Chan was; I don't think I'll watch another for a few decades.

Best Oland I've seen yet gives Number One Son plenty to do, but the various bickering between all of the suspects makes things drag on far too long.
