Neat little thriller told over the course of one night unfortunately features too little Karloff. The plot is also a little on the obvious side, and the comic relief a bit dull. Still a very good looking movie that provides a couple of good in-jokes and an old dark opera house to goof around in.

Charlie Chan meets Boris Karloff!!! That in itself makes this one of the more important entries in the Chan series! And Karloff is cool as the former opera singer who lost his memory when locked in a fire years ago. Now he has returned to the opera among old friends and deaths starts happening. And while Chan's investigation is interrupted by a lovely racist cop, he keeps making a fool of the dick picking up the clues. Warner Oland has got his Chan down and is a delight, so enjoy!
