Charlie Chaplin's Burlesque on Carmen

Very forgettable. The slapstick was bad. No comedic moments whatsoever. The only decent part was the laugh at the end.

One of the more enjoyable fight routines of Chaplin towards the end. The rest is worthless.

Some cute moments - I really liked the kiss while kicking the guy - but Chaplin doesn\'t do period pieces well.

As an attempt to ape the entire mise-en-scène of DeMille\'s production on a *much* smaller budget, a fine success, with the costumes, sets, and shot setups all being right on target. As an actual comedy... Edna Purviance does a good impression of Geraldine Farrar\'s smile, and there are some funny little moments throughout... but it all feels spread a bit thin, especially in the extended cut with a bunch of weak material from Ben Turpin thrown in.

A very weak installment in the Chaplin Short cannon.
