Charming Sinners was a stilted adaptation of Somerset Maugham's play The Constant Wife. Robert Miles (Clive Brook) starts the ball rolling when he falls in love with Anne-Marie Whitley (Mary Nolan), the best friend of his own wife Kathryn (Ruth Chatterton). In retaliation, Kathryn begins a flirtation with her former boyfriend Karl Kraley (William Powell). After reels and reels of verbal fencing, the status quo is re-established, and Robert and Kathryn are reunited. (imdb)

William Powell is suave and charming, all the other actors were quite stiff and stuffy. The main leads had zero chemistry which soured the story's romantic wit.

A rather stiff dramatization about adultery. Got some excellent actors like William Powell, Ruth Chatterton, Montagu Love, Clive Brook and Mary Nolan, but this has got the disadvantage of being a early sound movie and while the acting isn't as bad as it could be in those transition days, it's terribly dry and boring.
