'National Geographic' photographer James Balog was once a skeptic about climate change. But through his Extreme Ice Survey, he discovers undeniable evidence of our changing planet. 'Chasing Ice' has captured the largest glacier calving ever filmed, and for that scene alone you should watch. Think what you will about the legitimacy of global climate change claims, but --- no, just kidding. Please don't.

More than a global warming tract, more even than a chance to look at some jaw dropping nature photography, this movie is an encounter with the sublime. The stars whirl overhead in the night sky, fluffy white clouds blow past, the aurora borealis shines over the craggy, white-blue forms of the glaciers and the rocks, and it's like you're watching 2001: A Space Odyssey or something. Awe inspiring, profound and even frightening.

Very troubling yet inspiring stuff. A bit slow in parts, but worth the wait for the giant calving event at the end. The comparisons to Manhattan were astonishing. Stunning photography.

Short but pretty doc about glacier retreat. It's nice to see the guys' climbing escapades and to learn about some of the elements involved, but all the crap about the photographer and his family (and TBH the half-arsed snippets of scientific info too) should've been left out altogether. The money shot, with the incredible calving of an enormous glacier in Greenland, is worth an extra half-mark alone.
