I think Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo did a great job in their roles, and this I think served as a good way of showing that Tom and the Russo Brothers as well have more diversity to their talent than many people probably assumed, but MAN... this movie is tough to watch. Just bad thing after bad thing happening and a life spiraling out of control. It's well done for what it is, but I had a hard time watching it and I definitely won't be coming back to it.

It tries a bit too hard stylistically, and the run time could’ve absolutely used a trim (especially to everything prior to the return home), but I thought it was better than the critic reviews led me to believe. Having to great lead performances certainly helped, and the pacing was consistent enough that I didn’t lose interest. It may not be the masterpiece that it was trying to be, but it’s worth a watch.

Better than expected due to the reception. Holland is great here; this kind of role is always going to be demanding and he handles it well. Bravo is great opposite him as his wife, Emily. I really thought the runtime would bother me but I don't know what I'd actually cut out. I was invested in this and I think that the directing/style had a bunch to do with it. Threatened to go overboard but never went over that line, instead making the visual experience more compelling and fresh.

I hate the Russo brothers and wish they would go away. I don't like fake Tom Holland either.

Gotta love a 140min teaser of your own egotrip. I don't even think Russos are bad - they were efficient in MCU's project of developing generic yet fun as hell expensive entertainment -- but what a misfire it is to try to pull off a mixture of self-conscious pop cinema - constant fourth wall breaking and acid voiceover, Shitty Bank and Bank Fucks America, even one-liners - and operistic PTSD drama about 00s America. Things you do when you recycle Ritchie and Aronofsky and a ton of arrogance.

My boy Holland's contrast in his roles is just mesmerizing and he doesn't miss a beat. This one will probably be talked about more with its style, I loved the classical soundtrack, it just fit the mood so well. I did not feel the runtime, although the army bits could've been shorter. I understand it lines all the feelings he is having, then just shorten the bootcamp friend. Overall I enjoyed it and the style was fresh. Russo's do have a career still.

For a film that's all about Important Issues, it hardly has anything meaningful to say about them. (Honestly, I felt much the same about the book.)

Acting is good. Visuals are good. Story and themes don't quite cut it for me and I didn't like the dialogue much.
