After revisiting the "Child's Play" series, I was surprised by exactly how much my memory combined the original and the sequel together. While no doubt because of the plot being a continuation following the character "Andy", in retrospect, the sequel was a surprisingly noticeable, but hard to pin-point, decline from the first. Although I've come to appreciate the attention to the story's continuity throughout the series from Don Mancini, sadly this sequel feels like a bigger, but weaker retread.

Brad Dourif is a national treasure, but instead of being hidden within our nation's history, he's mostly hidden in horror movie history. Unfortunately, that's a much more tedious place to travel through. Not as violent though!

It really wouldn't be as bad of a film, if it did something new. It's got the same campy humor and style that was successful in the first one, but with a story and scares that just aren't as cool and satisfying. Not horrible, but a worse sequel for sure.

A well paced first two acts filled with late 80's horror goodness. Kyle is an icon. The last act is one of the most batshit crescendos in horror history. Gotta love it.

Ho-hum sequel that fails to capitalise on the strength of the original. It has none of the suspense, wit or visual invention of Holland's film and would essentially be a complete write off if it wasn't for the thrilling final sequence set in a toy factory. Dourif is amusing to hear as usual, and Chucky is always fun to watch, but he lacks adequate structural support. The film plays like a cheapie that was rushed into production.

I love the father character who is constantly upset with a kid who experienced a horribly traumatic experience. C'mon, dad, give him a break! I can see why people enjoy this film more than the original -- the Chucky effects are not only better, but we get to see more of the foul-mouthed bad boy we have all come to love. There's also a lot of bright, fun setpieces. Me, though? I prefer the original ever-so-slightly. I liked its slow build.

The Spielberg and Stephen King vibes are gone. Bad acting, increased sadism. Way too many of what seems to be this series's money shots, extreme close-ups of Chucky's face. Chucky has more lines in this and his face never matches Dourif's voice well enough. The climactic factory setpiece goes on way too long, and then kills Chucky no less than three times, any one of which would have been enough to end the film on.

In horror movie franchises, the introductory "resurrection of the monster" of later installments, can often be somewhat contrived. But this one takes the fucking gold medal.

Fairly tired and lifeless sequel; dragging Chucky centre stage doesn't really work because he is far more convincing (and scary) as an abstract threat than when he is in action (a plush doll is just a plush doll, even with a knife in its hands). Agreeable work by Elise and Vincent make this a harmless time-killer, until the brilliant third act, which indulges in creative (and darkly hilarious) puppet-body horror, bumping the score for this at least 10 points. Almost recommendable on that basis.

Child's Play 2 isn't doesn't stray far from the first in any aspect other than how Chucky is developed further. More of his personality comes out in a snappy, one-liner filled manner that makes this movie slightly more quirky and campy than the original. I rate it low, because all of the Child's Play movie are quite bad. Crap!

As good as the original, but for different reasons. Chucky is funnier in this one and it boasts some of the best special effects in the series. The ending in the doll factory is amazingly choreographed and edited. Still not great, but you could do worse as far as horror sequels go.

This OK sequel has more elaborate FX work and is often quite amusing but suffers from too many logic loopholes (i.e. supposedly taking place shortly after the events in the original, kid actor Vincent is obviously several years older) and has a mean streak that allows for the offing of several likable characters.

Takes everything from the original and makes it slightly better. Better side characters (Kyle is the MVP), more scares, an even creepier animatronic, and a fantastic final set piece to close the movie. Child's Play 2 is just damn fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously and most of its jokes land. Just like the first though, the movie still lives in movie magic land, where characters act dumb to help a scene move on or conveniently are right where they need to be for the plot.

BlurayRip RARBG.

A rejuvenated Chucky gets the bead on Andy in the first 20 minutes, so this one has much more action, and a much more animated Chucky. His uber-pissed-off face always kills me. Having the climax take place in the Good Guys toy factory was a stroke of genius.

Some of the scenes in this movie are uproariously funny, but the horror elements mostly fall flat. I'm glad the filmmakers recognized the absurdity of this film's premise as a sequel, but they didn't go far enough with the humor. Now park this piece of shit.

The horror of this film is seeing how badly Chucky ruined and continues to ruin Andy's family and childhood. The way Chucky can go from funny to terrifying from moment to moment is a major key to my enjoyment of Child's Play 2. I felt free to laugh at him, but I never could fully let my guard down because I didn't know what he would do next.
