My opinion of this doesn't matter. All that matters is that you discover the music video for "A New Beginning" by Wolfie's Just Fine. It is a much better love letter to 80's horror and stars our new little Andy.

As horror movies, "Child's Play" has never been successful in producing scares, but watching a doll kill people has always been fun. The ultimate failing in this reboot, isn't that it's not scary, but that the redesign just seems wrong, and as much as I have good things to say about Hamill's achievements as a voice actor, he just doesn't seem to take Dourif's place. Brad Dourif is irreplaceable as Chucky like Doug Bradley is as Pinhead.

Really want a disgusting R rated Small Soldiers remake. Would let Aubrey Plaza ruin my life. Oh right this movie is a gross fun time, it’s much better than whatever the hell the original franchise turned into.

I was admittedly delighted to no end by the visual near the end of blood from a severed neck spraying all over a screaming 4-year-old girl, enough to boost my score a point. But ultimately it’s hard for me to overlook the fact that the “dolls” in this movie are just straight up AI droids and everyone’s like totally cool with it until one snaps. A rare instance where the original series’ supernatural explanation actually made more sense!

A corporate dick wave at a franchise that was enjoying a second life in the digital world. How dare you get by, doing your own thing on the cheap, making money, and having people enjoy it? How are we going to shoehorn in Aubrey Plaza playing every character Aubrey Plaza has ever played (exactly one) when you're getting by with a cast of part timers and repertory players? So 5-10 stars for making me weirdly mad...(no points for Mark Hamill impersonating irl Brad Dourif, but the finale was gold)

I really liked the addition of AI to the story, although it’s crazy how obsessed everyone is with it, not to mention you’d think it’d have a sleeker design to it. This reimagining does well to separate itself from the original, although it’s a bit tonally inconsistent. It’s hilarious one moment, and a drawn out kill scene of an undeveloped character the next. Had is gone for a more fun Comedy/Horror vibe, I think I would’ve like it more. Not bad, decent acting and all. For Tupac.

What if Chucky was not a serial killer trapped in a doll because of voodoo, but instead he was a killer doll who had the evil switch turned on? I am not ready for Aubrey Plaza to be taking roles where she is a parent -- I am still young, right? Chucky looks even worse than that British weirdo doll in Seed of Chucky.

Mark Hamill bringing that there awesome voice acting for the umpteenth time. Thoroughly enjoyed this version of Chucky. Tons of fun and crucially doesn't outstay its welcome.

Ironically, taking the soul out of the possessed Chucky doll was exactly what it needed to feel unique and also ended up being its worst nightmare, as the film ended up feeling a bit soul-less in the end. Plus, Chucky is bulky and looks weird. Have you seen Alexa or Google Home? They're small, light, and portable. Evil malfunctioning robots are fun, but I think we can keep appreciating the classic series, instead.

It was...okay. In a, catch it on cable on a rainy Saturday afternoon kind of way. I just saw it a week ago and don't remember much clearly. It was billed as a horror comedy (the only horror I truly enjoy), but it wasn't funny at all.

This reboot was so lame! Chucky is now a really boring doll with no wit or personality to him. He's just a basic robot who follows orders or pretends to be good. Only thing going for him is Mark Hamill, but that's it. As for the other characters, who cares? Nothing made any sense and nobody seems to work out that Chucky is evil and things just happen randomly. What about the kills? Nothing memorable. The one-liners were weak and the finale sucked. It just wasn't all that entertaining to watch.

Didn't see this when it came out, didn't realize it was basically "M3GAN" before "M3GAN", but better, but still not great. I like that they tried something aside from spirit possession, and had the motive make sense by making Chucky sort of a tragic villain that's just misunderstanding things. Almost every character feels hollow, why does the main kid have a hearing aid, it has almost no significance in the movie. Feels like a lot was probably cut for runtime. Laughed a few times.

It's a barely passable "AI revolt" horror that seemed to be going the Stranger Thing road in a way that makes it harder to take seriously. But it's not really a Chucky without the possession though, is it? It spends a lot of time showing how the doll learns to be evil. Also, Rooney, nooo! Why do horror movies always do that?

Franchise's worst. New Chucky design annoyed me from the start and not even Hamill's good voicework convinced me otherwise. Gotta say I initially liked the idea of vietnamese worker finding revenge against evil boss by manipulating Buddi's chip, letting its AI go berserk out there on an already fractured family, revealing a corporation's will of dominance along the way. Too bad it's so poorly executed -- and main cast certainly doesn't help, specially mom and son. Nice gore, but not enough.

It's a great update on the original, using a more "realistic" cause for the modern age - and to that extent, they do it pretty well. The movie is still ridiculous, but it's relatively enjoyable and entertaining. Aubrey Plaza, I felt, was underutilized in this though.

Child's Play (2019) does have some nice twists and new ideas behind it. It does feel like it's own take, and that has surely left some people feeling let down by this. I personally believe that a remake should spin the material in new directions, and I think Hamill as Chucky as this new advanced AI was pretty interesting. Maybe it's corny, but it leaves a lot of potential to expand on new ideas. I appreciate the originals, but I like this much needed spin as well.

This movie really surprised me. There was a lot of comedic elements that actually got a laugh out of me. Andy's character arc worked for me as well. There were some horror cliches and stupid characters decisions that kept the movie going, but overall it was a fun time.

Great performances all-around, particularly from Plaza, Bateman & Henry, as well as great voice work from Hamill, beautiful visuals, a fun soundtrack & enjoyable gore plus several bits of clever writing all feature here- yet, somehow, none of them are enough to make this all that special, & a lot of that comes down to how hollow & heartless the entire thing feels. Logic holes, a plot that dives off a cliff halfway through, & tonal issues don't help either. It's worth a look, but it's not great.

It isn't as sly as the original--its consumer critique is far more on the nose, and what it has to say about AI is nothing new or interesting--but it's really no worse than Mancini's recent efforts. The doll looks wrong, and the relationship between Chucky and the boy lacks dynamic tension. On the plus side, it does try to update the concept for the 10's, if not totally successfully, and the toy store finale, while entirely routine, compensates somewhat for the mechanical moves preceeding it.

Surprisingly good: I went in blind, and was frequently delighted to see roads less traveled. It'd stand up just as well if divorced of its franchise & allowed to stand for itself.. They do manage to stay loyal to its premise & central horror element, yet they (gratefully) forge their own path here. They're not just remaking a film to the current time but of current themes. All the things that make it a quality remake are also the exact reasons the usual dullards will bitch and moan.

I did not have high expectations for this, so I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a fan of the Chucky series ... I find every one I have seen to be somewhere between merely okay and bloody awful. I thought this remake did some things right. The mostly comedic first half hour was genuinely funny. Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill and Brian Tyree Henry all do a god job. The new Chucky design is ... not good ... but I laughed and enjoyed myself until we get to the second half.

My expectations were set super low so I really enjoyed the first half or so. Was actually enjoying it maybe more than the original. Liked the whole AI concept better than the stupid "voodoo" shit of the original series. But then the second half felt like it gave up on doing anything interesting & settled into predictable mediocrity. Also the doll design was distractingly ugly, seriously, who would even buy that hideous thing. Overall, though, violent & entertaining enough to satisfy me.

I don't usually watch remakes of '80s horror "classics" because they look so turgid, bland, and unenjoyable, but are they actually as hilarious, cheeky, and aware of their remake status as this one? This is a dumb and trashy film that manages to make itself work, having fun with itself and the audience, the dark unfriendly humour of which gets gleefully nastier as the film goes on.
