My favourite among this director's movies are these ridiculous campy excursions, but quickly you learn to take them seriously, because Ferrara is not fucking around. Better than West Side Story, definitely.

Movie 3100. German Expressionism by way of downtown Manhattan. Fully and utterly alive.

An impressive film that takes the love story and its surrounding politics from the source material and gives it a NY injection, featuring some very bold and commanding technical direction from Ferrara, giving (especially the earlier scenes) some much needed excitement and tension. I would've enjoyed this more if I hadn't realised how damn repetitive this narrative structure gets, despite the short running time, it would've made the ending more welcome.

A simplified but not overly simplistic picture of violent conflict between Italian and Chinese youth along an international border in the form of lower Manhattan's Canal st. Another interesting divide represented is that between seedy but pacifistic adult bosses in both Chinatown and Little Italy, and their own unruly youth whose warmongering they can't control. An interracial love story is the backbone of the script. China Girl is the first of several Ferraras exhibiting resemlance to De Palma.

the holy trinity of the modern american cinema - St.John, Delia and Ferrara strikes again which i insist it's not a "modern day Romeo and Juliet story in New York" ! This is stupid and childish. The film is beyond that just like the Addiction is beyond vampire cliches.
