Sort of gritty mocking adaptation of Chinatown dramas, making fun of white peoples fascination of the oriental stereotype while at the same time keeping the stereotypes alive. But the oriental element is mainly a backdrop to the white leads rather creepy courting as Wallace Beery keeps the woman he's trying to protect captive in his oriental den. The lady being Florence Vidor doing her final movie of her career, and her only talkie. An fairly odd piece lurking underneath it's quirky atmosphere.
