Chirin no suzu

After its mother is slain by a vicious wolf, a lamb seeks out the villain so as to train under it to become strong enough to one day claim revenge. If that premise alone doesn't make you want to watch this, I don't know what to tell you.

There are some good parts to this but I never got invested as the film switches gears quickly and I found the narration and songs distracting.

Carelessly blows past some important plot beats, and some character behavior stretches credulity; this is really more about eliciting an emotional response first, making a point second, and making sense a distant third. Still, there's a little more going on here than a bog-standard cautionary tale about the abyss staring back. (Disclaimer: English dub.)
