On the utmost importance of coping mechanisms when it comes to surviving in a society that is seemingly designed to intolerably compromise the integrity of all its players. Reminiscent of The Assassination of Richard Nixon, and maybe even Taxi Driver.

Movies can often mistreat anxiety or depression by sensationally presenting them and betraying the mentally ill. But this film gets it. The stressors are amplified by the era: a time where the culture's pace caused those close to Christine to lose empathy with her problems. Still, we get to witness a driven, emotionally compromised woman try to keep her humanity in an uncompromising environment. This is a great alternative to films set in Corporate America that are awash in toxic masculinity.

Rebecca Hall gives a stellar performance in this chronicle of sensationalism, perfectionism, depression and a host of other extremely topical commentaries on humans and the news. Ends with a bang!

Hall's magnificent, heart-felt performance distinguishes an otherwise middling bio-drama, which ultimately fails to provide enough context to truly try to explain the reasons for Christine's self-implosion (if that's even possible). There is also the nagging thought of whether this story would even be worth telling, but for the sensationalistic ending. Use of 70s style and décor feels a little to showy and overdone.

A dark look into the decent of one reporter. The struggles of morality, loneliness and depression ring deep throughout.

The story of Christine Chubbuck (Rebecca Hall), a news reporter in 70s Florida who, after dealing with misogyny, professional and personal setbacks, and her own mental health issues, committed suicide on a live broadcast. A gripping, heartbreaking true story, exceptionally well-written and performed, with a tremendous performance by Hall, who handles every part of the role, subdued and intense alike, with tragic skill. Easily one of the best recent biopics, and fated to be one of the least seen.

Nothing bad can be said about Rebecca Hall's chilling performance as she is fantastic. However, whether you know the conclusion or not, the film as a whole leaves you either waiting or curious to see if this leads anywhere. I'm all for character studies, but Christine leaves something to be desired.

Fun, and relatable! A biopic on an ordinary person that never feels ordinary, or boring, and fills up the time showing how much of Chubbuck's life falls apart, almost to a comically depressing level towards the end. A bit more build-up to the denouement would've been appreciated, but this feels like an earnest film about the all-encompassing disappointments of life.

Suffers from the usual tedious biopic horseshit, but Hall really is something else here.

What starts of as a feminist movie about woman struggling to make a career in a man's world slowly develops into a drama about a woman succumbing to depression. What this movie also does excellent is making you feel how it is to see a loved one slip (back) into depression, wanting to help but not being able to because (s)he won't let you. Hall is phenomenal

The difficulty the viewer has with Christine, despite a stellar performance from Hall, is that you are left with the 'impossible' question, "yes, but WHY ?". However, it is a cop out to expect the film to give clear reasons; you have to go with the tide of reasons presented, even if for most people this wouldn't have been enough. The pain, the rejection, the lonliness, the futility are all there and the lead up to the event is one of the most chilling and sad climaxes to a film I have witnessed

Lead with an incredible performance by Hall, this is a taut story told with procedural perfection by Campos. Feels like there's no fat on the bone, just the step by step process of this extremely lonely, unfulfilled woman falling down the rabbit hole of depression and eventual self-harm. Is it a parable for the state of modern media? I think Nightcrawler covers that better. This is about a real person and her real suffering.

How have I not rated this yet? Anyway Rebecca Hall is a treat in this otherwise slightly uninteresting film. Shame, tho, because Chubbuck was a very interesting person and the inciting incident still runs through my head

This is a towering performance. The film is good. Hall is astonishing. It's a detailed, empathetic and fearless performance of someone suffering from the kind of depression and anxiety that drives other away, even as they are initially drawn to her obvious intelligence. This isn't mental illness as a collection of easy tics. It's the best work I've ever seen from her.

Seen: 2. I felt the need to give Christine a second viewing, and I am glad I did. Make no mistake, it is a tough watch. The pace is slow but steady, and there isn't a big inciting incident. But there is something so incredibly relatable in Rebecca Hall's career defining performance as an introvert stuck in her own head, who yearns to be more. It is heartbreaking as she goes from one defeat to another. It is a strong character study.
