I have been in love with Winnie the Pooh since I was at least a year old, so I ended up really liking this movie. It was adorable, sweet, cute, and paced very well. The story hits all of the right beats it aims for and I thought the cinematography was really pretty as well. This really brought out the child in me and I left feeling very warm and happy. This delivered everything I wanted from an "older" Christopher Robin movie. Worth watching if you're a fan of A.A. Milne and/or Pooh Bear.

Although I found most of the third act disappointing, I cannot deny the emotional effect the existence of this film had on me, an fan of the books by A. A. Milne. I did not have these books read to me as a child, and I came to them rather late, beginning in sixth grade. I don’t know what drew me to them then, but I hold tightly to them now for their lack of cynicism, their pureness of spirit, and their steadfast belief in the virtues of kindness, curiosity, imagination, and special friendships

The curmudgeon-redemption arc is as rote as they come, but the pure simplicity of the adventuring residents of the Hundred Acre Wood is so uniquely charming that the whole package, gorgeously filmed in a lovely palette, is a surprising delight. The explicit socialist turn and Hayley Atwell's dry, along-for-the-ride delivery didn't hurt, either. Disclaimer: Knowing what I do about the true story, I feel a little guilty for enjoying this as I did—Damn you, Disney; I've been suckered!

I should be more cynical about this relatively hum-drum tale of family conflict, as well as how too clean and happy the ending is, expunging every atom of darkness, also supported by the vague and contradictory message about laziness. But Pooh's charming and amusing puns and one-liners on ascetic philosophy are still churning in my head and lifting my moods even days later -- it helps that the voice-work and animal design are spot-on, and Robin rediscovering his childhood is a delight.

Said it in a few places, if you're comfortable with your childhood being sold back to you at $10 per ticket, you'll probably really enjoy this movie, and in this case I totally was. Ewan McGregor is so good in this. Excellent CG, excellent voice work, and compared to another UK-flavoured fairy tale kids film from earlier this year (Peter Rabbit), I much prefer this classic brand of comedy versus the heavily-modernized. There are emotional beats that this hits that were undeniable for me. See it!

Similar in concept to Forster's Finding Neverland, Christopher Robin can't decide if it wants to be a serious film or a lighthearted kid's fairytale. It does both well, but the tonal inconsistencies make it feel bizarre and goofy. While it wraps up a little too easily, it's cute and clever and has some genuinely great moments, mostly involving "live action" Pooh.

Assuming that the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood are all psychological manifestations of Christopher Robin, the transcendental moment arrives when he and Pooh, both in red vests, sit on the trunk of a tree, overlooking the estate, and share a cup of honey. Time has withered them a bit, but it's still a beautiful new day, and they're free to do absolutely nothing.

What a strange movie. The first hour was very gloomy with little room for joy and happiness and the forest friends didn't really connect to the realistic setting. I was never able to shake off the feeling that Pooh was kind of demented and unpredictable which gave him slightly creepy vibe throughout the movie. And even though I love me some Tigger the same could be said about him (the washed out design didn't help). Eeyore and Piglet were okay. Also the plot was dumb and McGregors acting weak.

Holy moly that is some butt ugly CGI. If it weren't for the solid screenplay this might have successfully sucked all the charm out of one of Disney's most effortlessly charming IPs.

Wrong-headed re-imagining? reboot? sequel? to Winnie The Pooh at least has its heart in the right place, but the grim, depressing atmosphere combined with the disturbing 'uncanny valley' animation of Pooh and friends, makes this tough to like; McGregor's monotonous, one-note performance doesn't help matters. Voice over work is the highlight, with Garrett an especially good (and inspired) pick for Eeyore.

I've been on/off Criticker for a while now (hopefully I can be back for good), but I forgot to review this gem! It's. So. Sweet. I was never even really a Pooh kid growing up, but this filled me with such childlike nostalgia and at one point, even brought me to tears. I'm happy to pay for more films like this at any point. Movies like this are hard to find nowadays.

Naturally, this is at its most charming when Pooh & company are on screen. Somehow that little bear's schtick doesn't wear thin after decades. But the plot is painfully predictable and McGregor's character arc is too blunt even for five-year-olds. An okay outing, some chuckles sprinkled throughout, but overall forgettable.

Christopher Robin follows Disney's recent trend of playing on nostalgia, but this time ages the characters to tell a new story rather than just regurgitating a modern sanitised re-telling. The plot is fairly simple with a simple message at its culmination, though it takes a contrived path to get there. Overall a little silly, but equally as cute. The cast is what truly makes this film; McGregor, Atwell and the voice actors are great (though I've always found Tigger grating).

Sweet, charming and actually quite nice for a movie that is basically a remake of Hook but with stuffed animals. Unlike Disney's other live action reboots this movie wouldn't work without having seen at least some of the greater Winnie the Pooh franchise. Otherwise all of the inhabitants of 100 Acre Woods seem like maniacs. Ok, maybe not the kangaroos. But every once else, clearly a nutcase.

I have no idea why critics are being so negative on this movie. It's exactly what I expected going in, and I loved every moment of it. It's a "perfect" film that beautifully balances its mature themes with a lot of silly family-friendly antics. It's the first Best Picture contender I've seen this year. I hope at the very least Ewan McGregor is considered for Best Actor (I'd say Jim Cummings too, but you know how the Academy is about voice actors).

I thought I was going to a different movie, Goodbye Christopher Robin, but turns out that was released in 2017. My silly. Anyway, it was a cute story. The surrounding characters were a welcome addition to an age-old plot.

There are individual moments in it that are really praise worthy and the realisation of Pooh and Company as characters is arguably Disney’s best in many decades. The film sits awkwardly however; awkwardly between demographics, awkwardly between fantasy and real world, and awkwardly between downbeat redemptive drama and sweet hearted bubbly comedy. Pooh’s incidental, accidental wisdom is always a pleasure, it’s a shame Foster couldn’t package it up into something more consistant.

The fire alarm in my theatre went off with ~15 minutes to go and I missed the ending. I was actually pretty upset about it because I found myself absorbed by the innocent nostalgic charm of this film. Nothing remarkable but hits all the right notes for children and adults alike.

A very heartfelt performance from McGregor helps bring a sense a childhood nostalgia that is often forgotten. The final moments trail off on how reality has an impact on the way we view nostalgia and how we are brought back to what matters most. Childrens films often try and paint the real world as a moral and just place and thats well and good but as easy as it was for Christopher Robin to forget Pooh the world reminds us that when we actually do nothing we find ourselves at an impass.

Workaholic dad realizes family is most important. This main arc is as generic as they come and the ending as happy as can be, but when its plodding Pooh (of little brain but much wizened patience and childlike heart) and the rest of the heartmelting-ly silly and sweet forest gang (adorably animated) guiding it along its nearly completely forgiven. A magical score ensures the tears flow as Pooh and co. with red balloon in tow conquer stress and selfishness with peace, love, and honey.

This was okay. It was basically Hook (1991), but with Winnie the Pooh characters. Lots of clichés and familiar story beats. Still, it wasn't without charm. It did capture some things about childhood fairly well. The animal characters were cute and I thought the animation on them was pretty good. Ewan McGregor was fine. It didn't do much new, but it was pleasant enough.

It would have been great if Spike Jonze could have done a "Where the Wild Things Are" treatment of this because Forster shows in the first 30 minutes what that would have been like, and it would have been fantastic. Probably over-inflating this score because of those 100 acre wood scenes.

While certainly suitable for children, it comes across like a movie made for the adults that grew up on Pooh who need a reminder of what the important stuff in life is. And I'm okay with that! We had an excellent, more "conventional" Pooh in 2011 and this still maintained the spirit of Pooh anyway. It's inoffensive and sometimes funny, but ultimately it's driven by its themes more than its plot. Third act was a little bit lesser than the rest until the very end, needed more of the Pooh gang.

The plot and theme run a bit too close to 'Hook', and that limits the enjoyment when I feel like I'm watching much of the same movie, done better elsewhere. It had some cute moments especially around Eeyore, but this didn't work as well as I'd have liked. Jim Cummings as Pooh, though, high point. He always nails the role.

Generally, watching old classic animations with CGI causes lot of problems. But there's not much of those problems in this. As a family/child movie, the message and script kept it usual. But characther developments are so detailed that they could touch everyones heart easily. Even though Pooh is one of the happiest of them, his voice and lines made me feel so depressed. I don't know if that affect the kids as the same way but if so, it's not that good. Overall that movie was beautiful.

One of those movies where I don't really see who the audience are supposed to be. The story about a businessman who has to perhaps fire employees and is neglecting his family seemed aimed at adults, but most of the humor is for kids. Piglet and Eeyore are basically the only really enjoyable parts. And then there's the awkward moment when you realize that a huge chunk of the movie is lifted directly from a sidequest in the first Kingdom Hearts game.
