Pretty good film about old-time gangsters. Significantly better than Public Enemies, but not on the level of Bonnie & Clyde. Sometimes the low budget shows though through, as key scenes are either abridged or skipped altogether. Also a couple of questionable choices of music. But overall it's well worth watching, particularly for Kevin Durand.

Citizen Gangster is an interesting historical piece that takes place in Canada after World War II. It follows a war veteran that resorts to becoming a charming bank robber, whom eventually teams up with other disenfranchised war veterans for bigger heists. The actors give strong enough performances which enable the viewer to possibly feel somewhat sorry for them when misfortune, or justice, comes their way. Citizen Gangster is good enough for at least a single view.

Old time gangster flick about the most notorious bank robber in Canada. Unless you are from Toronto, I probably wouldn't recommend it.

Everything is overly familiar, from its inexplicable modern rock soundtrack that contributes nothing but a winking macho cinema style to the robberies, to women who do nothing but wait and worry and have babies and cry. And by the time it does find its pitch, it's a half hour too long by that point. This is all unfortunate for Kevin Durand, the towering, muscular character actor who stands out from Scott Speedman's unconvincing grandstanding and Brendan Fletcher's cliché tag-along wild card.
