Being middle-aged has yet to bring me to a ranch, so maybe things aren't going as terrible as I thought.

Worth a good chuckle seeing these men deal with their mid-life crisis. Jack Palance and Billy Crystal are a good pair to make you laugh.

City Slickers is a easy breezy comedy with a hardcore emotional edge. The themes of coping with middle age are relevant in a timeless sense. As is its western setting. Billy Crystal and Jack Palance give award worthy performances. Daniel Stern and the rest of the cast handle the brilliant dialogue and interactions very well.

God, what an uneven movie this is. A lot of it is just so damn schmaltzy and melodramatic. The comedy varies from mostly funny one liners to mostly unfunny and overly broad set pieces. Fortunately Billy Crystal works as the lead, and him and Palance do a lot to make everything watchable. I know better than to enjoy this, but there's a nostalgic charm to how hokey it all is. The kind of thing you'd be laughed at for attempting nowadays. If that's what you're looking for than proceed with caution.

An ensemble of some of the most prominent comedy actors of the late 80's and early 90's, the film is innocent fun with early 90's aesthetics, plot points and comedy. It also features the breakout role of Jake Gyllenhaal!

Middle-age crisis comedy, manipulative as all get-out, mostly falls flat until Palance arrives to steal the show . . . but there's too little of him and too much of Crystal, Stern and Kirby.

This is a great male bonding story. Three old freinds deal with their life's ups and down. Jack Palance is so cool it radiates through the whole movie. Crystal, Kirby, and Stern are fantastic together. Sure it gets a little slapstick at times, but only when appropriate. Very good movie, one of Crystal's best roles. Plus it has Norman the cow!

The film offers genuine chemistry between the lead three friends to balance the occasional funny stupidity. Better much better than I was expecting. Probably the best performance I've seen from Billy Crystal.

A comedy film that's pretty decent and plays well on the emotional side in order get a reaction out of you. Even if it's not very classy, it's enjoyable. And it may even squeeze a couple of "awwww"s out of you.

Sometimes I wonder what happened to the mainstream comedy for grown-ups - the kind that was both smart and funny, that had a somewhat serious undertone but played it with a light touch. Then I watched this and I realised what happened: it got boring.

A contrived fish out of water story conceived in the bowels of some corporate Hollywood board room. The fact that there are some funny jokes and gags here can't save the fact that this is merely an attempt to milk Billy Crystals all too sore utters.

City Slickers is a great movie, almost regardless of what you're looking for. It provides a lot of humor, some intelligence, and a great deal of heart. It has good actors, a very humorous script, and enough emotional and intellectual weight to satisfy even those who don't just want a simple comedy. This is a movie that can be watched again and again, by everyone in the family, and it will never get old. It was also made with the confidence to allow for important and interesting digressions.

Some funny characters, the occasional funny line. The "message" is muddled and the conclusion is ultimately unsatisfying and predictable, but I was still entertained. Solid time-filler.

I really like this movie. It's a solid classic. It's not the most amazing movie in the world but it has a great amount of humor and some heartwarming moments. I think Billy Crystal has great comedic timing and is just the perfect about of snarky. Jack Palance is awesome in this and is a perfect cowboy. It was weird seeing little tiny Jake Gyllenhaal as Crystal's son. Daniel Stern stole the whole show in my opinion...

It's a midlife crisis resolved by a life-changing adventure except it's not life-changing because he goes back to his old life which he's suddenly less depressed about because an old man said something vague about the meaning of life and he realized he loves his kids movie and it's really sad that this is a stock plot but it was amusing as these movies go.

Didn't like it in 1991, don't like it 30 years later. I think my problem is I've never wanted or dreamed about being a cowboy. All of the happiest moments in my life happened indoors.

Not funny, but a triumph of trend-reading and of some sociological interest. Our heroes' co-Slickers are Blacks and Jews who immediately subordinate themselves: the Black son is instantly insecure and defensive about their being Black dentists, leading to a public rebuke by wise old Dad. The Jews are brothers who clarify that they hire models to represent them on their food packages because they themselves are so disgusting as to put customers off their appetite. The women fare little better...

It has a slow start and as a comedy it is honestly just ok. But once it gets to the premise it works so well as a touching feel good movie. Somewhat dated and certainly cheesy, but it is effective despite all of its flaws.
