Classical Period

Less successful than his first movie. Honestly feels more like a first movie than Short Stay because it’s clearly indebted to its influences. Short Stay wasn’t exactly reinventing the American indie wheel, but it had a vision, both on American middle class ennui and a directorial vision, that felt fresh.

Recalls essay films and conversation pieces like "Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting", "Museum Hours", "Dinner with Andre", Jon Jost, etc. I had high hopes because Radu Jude sang this film's praises. It's an hour long and most of it is a guy named Cal teaching his friends about Dante and Edmund Campion. I like the audacity and I found some of the subjects interesting. It's pretty good for a true indie film, but acting is hardly even attempted and the general level of professionalism is quite low.
