Writer-directer Jill Sprecher illustrated the dystopia of an office before Office Space or Fight Club. It elevates the setting by showing how gender escalates a conflict: with one character calling temps "corporate whores." It's a perfect 90's indie, although the script takes a while to gain momentum and reveal characters. But the ending accurately shows there's no easy way to avoid oppressive workplace politics. And Parker Posey is charming and fun as hell. Highly recommended.

A great cast just absolutely crushing it. It's like if Office Space removed 50% of the jokes and instead added more of the soul-crushing despair of working in an office. Was there anyone cooler than Parker Posey in the 90s?

A very funny, very observant film.

Quietly funny and realistically sad - being a replaceable office worker in the corporate world for sure seems like hell. *Preview*: #14#, story, (ratings), actresses.

I love this movie, which did infact come before Office Space, but won't ever be remembered in that way. It tackles a lot of the same office topics, in hilarious ways, but also has a serious side that makes it really great.

Despite its office cubicle origin, some people can make anything interesting. Parker is her usual sassy chain smoking self, & Lisa her usual guy wanting somewhat dim self, but nevertheless this is an unusual coming of age story, and fun to watch.

Starts as a fun buddy office comedy, ends as a morose commentary on crappy jobs and circumstantial friendships

If you have ever been a Temp worker before then this movie is for you. This movie really captures the horrible aspects of being a Temp. There are some funny parts in this movie but also some very serious ones. It deals with work relationships very realistically.

Of all the post-Hartley, talky '90s indie comedies starring Parker Posey, this is the most metaphysical, dare I say almost Rivette-ian. A thing of rare, trembling beauty.

Not amusing, a waste of time.

Quirky dramedy that seems to explain why I (as a "permanent employee") get stuck going to a lot of team-building exercises at the places I've worked. Thankfully, none have been as mind-numbing as the employment shown here, which is mocked but perhaps never beaten. Some good performances and a slightly off-kilter musical score (that sounds like a circus soundtrack at times) but the storyline didn't grab me. Best line: what Parker Posey quip isn't the best line?

The excellent, fresh comedy of the first half disappears in the second half, replaced by a sad, striking dive into mundane cog-in-the-machine office minutiae. The balance is disappointingly missing with the tone shift, but this is a worthwhile journey that everyone can relate to in some way.
