Top badass moment? Alan Rickman talking a lot, mostly about nothing. This is worthless ability that I share with him, therefore it’s badass. In an England where everyone’s rich, lives in a huge house by the river, the weather’s always gorgeous and most people idle their days away at picnics, Saskia Reeves does her best to make no mean yes and then mean no again. As I don’t have a sister, anything more subtle or profound in the story was lost on me. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

The highlights of this complex movie are the beautiful, naked and incredibly alluring Saskia Reeves, and a young Clive Owen. The reality is sad and somewhat disturbing, but performances all around are engaging. Production and music quality is excellent. The older sister deludes herself into thinking sex with her brother can be innocent and harmless, but he becomes fully invested in her. It would not be hard to imagine this relationship occurring except for the context of them being siblings.

I love Poliakoff for doing the most difficult things and hitting on a deep universal truth and human psychology. But it means you get misses as well as hits. For me this just did not hit home.
