Colonia

A thrilling premise fails to dig in for much of the film: The central couple has little chemistry, providing a weak foundation for the adventure to follow; Lena's journey into Colonia is lazily written (it's much too easy); and the initial scenes at the colony feel cliché. As the story dispenses with its contrived plot set-ups and dialogue and entrenches itself in the creepy cult setting, however, the tension starts to build with chilling discoveries and escape excitement right until the end.

Nothing about this film is especially compelling but the story itself, but since it is told capably, if not remarkably, it is still a decently engaging film.

Except for the fact such a cult/detention camp existed, the rest is fiction, and that's riddled with plot holes from beginning to end.

The difficulty with these kinds of movies is that you want as many details in there as possible. The introduction is important for the end to come together. I honestly don't know which scenes I would have left out, but Gallenberger stuffed too many in there. Brühl is solid and Nyqvist is very convincing. Watson continues to shake of her Hermione spell. *Okay

Quite bland. Emma Watson is decent as usual, and Daniel Bruhl does a pretty good job too. However, they're not able to really do that much with their characters because of a poorly written script and a lot of cliched moments. The filmmaking isn't terrible, as the pace works quite well, but on the whole there's a lot more justice that could have been done to make this interesting topic an interesting movie.

Intense as fuck. Parts of the movie are really silly, and Emma Watson is a wooden actress, however the plot is gripping enough and the rest of the actors are on point. Good ass tightening popcorn flick.

It's mostly ridiculous, but not exactly boring.

A film that lives by the Topic its based on, and that's not much. The protagonists are added by the writers and they are shallow and plain. The Script is only good when it's based on reality, and that's sad.

Couldn't really get into it. Didn't like the casting very much and the script was too on the nose in my opinion. Didn't want to finish watching it.

Emma Watson is very good in this drama. Michael Nyquist is also very good in this film.The screenplay for the most part is interesting. Overall I would recommend this film.

So this is not unlike The Handmaid's Tale, if June had actually managed to get the hell out of Dodge, rather than being forced to thread water for three seasons. On the bad side, instead of Elisabeth Moss we get an Emma Watson who is just not bringing her A-game and a Daniel Brühl who understands the assignment, but isn't given a lot to work with.

When you're looking for a decent night filler, this is it. It's not exceptional, but you'll enjoy it.

Passable but not much more. The cast is pretty good, but the whole thing is way less interesting than it should be given the subject matter.

The film is rendered in such a way as to make it very difficult to believe as a true story.

Michael Nyqvist as a weapon dealing pedo cult leader sealed the deal here! A fine film even if it takes a while to sink into this alternative Nazi/dictator world of Chile.

For a movie this centered around its historical context it's pretty weak when it comes to dealing with exactly that. It's very superficial and simplified. What works, though, and pretty well (most of the time), is the suspense. Nothing special, but decent thrills await. You won't remember much of it after a couple of days, but you will be entertained.

Without Emma Watson, this would be 79.

It's not difficult to make up a Spanish speaker cast, unless your purpose is to attract North American viewers. Well, if you only aim them, then you don't need the rest of the world.
