Outlaw Wes McQueen is sprung from jail to help pull one last railroad job. He doesn't like his new partners - except dance-hall girl Colorado - and anyway fancies Julie Ann newly arrived from the east to set up home with her father. Maybe time to get out. Unfortunately he also has a $10,000 reward on his head, dead or alive. (imdb)

Quite a well-made western, with a memorable final act.

Raoul Walsh remakes his own _High Sierra_ as a Western. It just ain't as good the second time around, and the third version (yes, they did a third) _I Died A Thousand Times_ is even worse

I want to like this more, there are several really good scenes and I like the final act, predictable though some of it may be. But overall it feels really thin and awkwardly paced with a number of mediocre performances.

Cheesy gangster/western that is packed with action.

Fine western is a slow burn (a little too slow in its first acts) but revs up to an exciting, galvanising finale, with a chillingly nihilistic finish (if you can disregard a corny epilogue). Might have been even greater with a more charismatic leading man, but the supporting cast compensates, providing a gaggle of memorable characters.

An interesting Western re-make of High Sierra. Joel McCrea exhibits a great range than usual, and Virginia Mayo gives one of her best performances as Colorado Carson, a "bad" girl a man can depend on.

I think I see why Mourlet likes this so much.

If you don't have any better ideas, simply make a western adaptation of a film you've done before. That's what Raoul Walsh did, remaking High Sierra (1941) in a wild west setting, starring Joel McCrea & Virginia Mayo. Not as great as the original, but not a wasted attempt. Generates enough excitement and Mayo with guns wasn't exactly a off-putting sight.

"Colorado Territory" is a well-crafted film, yet it's populated by characters who are hard to like, which helps distinguish the truly villainous from those who are merely flawed.
