The Babagoof. Oh autism, the shield of the bland writer coming up with a unique character to put through their garbage.

Basically the Babadook but worse and from the POV of the autistic child instead of the mother. Doesn't ever do a very effective job of building tension for a horror movie. Not terrible but you can certainly find something better to watch.

Meandering horror film has an effective line in jump scares, and likable performances from its cast, but can't really develop its premise beyond the "bumps in the night" aspects, making the film a slow-burn tease that ultimately goes nowhere. The notion of the monster being a physical manifestation of the hero's emotional state (and perhaps a fractured relationship with at least one parent) is an intriguing one, but is hampered by the lack of ambition and a closed off lead character.

I don't think it's fair to trash this movie based on Babadook. I enjoyed it none the less and think they did a good job on Larry and the scares/atmosphere.

I like the monster design but aside from that there’s not really a lot there.

Hey, want a family friendly horror movie, this one's for you. An autistic boy is haunted by a monster appearing in the electronic devices in the house.

Huh. I guess we saw two different movies; at the very least I didn't see a movie that appears to have engendered a pretty strong negative response. Its never fair of me to judge jump scares because I'm a coward, but I felt this was a fairly interesting premise executed in an okay way with characters I mostly enjoyed and a villain who was well-designed and decently menacing. I'm not going to pretend I didn't enjoy the movie. I said at the end, this won't redefine the genre, but I enjoyed myself.

Definitely one of the last movies I remember seeing a trailer for and not getting to see in theatres because of covid. It being about kids means there won’t be any like REAL scares or violence or anything. I don’t entirely get the concept of the movie but I liked the design of the monster

If you really liked Babadook, this will either satiate your need for a similar film or absolutely aggravate you because this is not Babadook. It’s enjoyable, not terrifyingly scary, more ambient horror. What I thought was refreshing that all other people in the film saw the monster early on so the runtime wasn’t wasted on gaslighting the protagonist with “it’s just your imagination honey, there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for our levitating furniture”.

It must have been boring for demons before electrical devices just rattling doorknobs or whatever. But then they started switching things on and off, talking through TVs, possessing VHS tapes, and now with touchscreen technology, it's a whole new world! They're emailing illustrators, "hey, I'm currently designing a story app - can't pay much but have lots of demon buddies with similar projects in the pipeline so it'll be great exposure..."

Tırstım. Yalan yok.

Very bad writing infects this production and no quantity of good acting could overcome the fatally flawed premise. There were dozens of failed jump scares. It has a lot of intense overblown music, weird sound effects, and far too much chopped up camera editing. Good for scaring children I guess. For me, it was lazy, idiotic, tedious, and entirely forgettable. Not worthwhile. However, Gillian Jacobs is still pretty hot. That is until she became friends with Larry. Haha!

İzlerken, bana The Babadook'u hatırlatan Come Play, o filme benzer de olsa, iyi bir hikaye yaratımıyla yola çıktığını söyleyebilirim fakat Jacob Chase, bu fikri pek de iyi kullanamamış. Senaryo maalesef vasat kalmış.

This is definitely a premise, or gimmick-fueled film, but thankfully, I actually love the premise, especially the monster, which is literally just purely straight up personified grief, sadness, and depression - which is...kind of smart. I love the look of the monster, but one of the main issues I had with it was the presentation of autism. I feel like the mom just kept holding onto hope that she could "fix" certain things about her son that I don't believe need to be fixed. Otherwise, it's okay.
