Shot in a gorgeous pocket of rural Colorado with big blue skies, green hills, and mountain forests, Gordon Willis has a freaking field day. On top of this, every performance in the film is top notch: Jane Fonda rolls out a powerful lead performance as Ella, a strong-willed rancher harboring past traumas, and Richard Farnsworth just goes to town as grizzled ranch hand Dodger. It doesn't rewrite the book on Westerns, but it's a quiet, beautiful little melodrama with considerable emotional impact.

"Comes a Horseman" is a western complete with evil cattle baron and quintessential cowboy in Richard Farnsworth.

Blu-ray rip YTS.

I can't remember another movie where Jane Fonda was any less attractive or her acting any less enjoyable. James Caan was a charismatic cowboy but with little to say. The movie has almost no real enthusiasm, but I liked Richard Farnsworth and Jason Robards was just OK. I fault the story and especially the director, this movie lacks luster and the way the story is told is ordinary and disappointing. I think it is sad even by 1987 standards.

It's not a completely successful film. It's slow. Occasionally so slow that it seems to stop completely. It also leaves a lot of character backstory and plot elements hidden in the first half of the film for no clear reason, simply making it more difficult to follow then it needs to be. It's ultimately a rewarding film, with absolutely stunning cinematography from Gordon Willis that blends his really dark look with some truly impressive vistas.
