No no, guys don't worry. R Crumb HAD to be racist to get it out of his system so he could spend the rest of his career also being racist.

Spends too much time on readings and not enough time with the interview subjects - all of whom are fascinating when discussing their work, and at very exciting points in their careers, capturing a great boom in the artform as it was happening.

I enjoyed it right up until it got to the "underground comics" era. Never been into them in the first place, but it had this out-of-nowhere inclusion of a truly revolting scene in which the cartoonist reads her story where two girls murder a little boy for raping a cat or something. It made me mentally check out of the whole documentary, and it was absolutely unnecessary and disturbing.

I always get a kick out of William M. Gaines, this was a fun 80 minutes.

I am interested in comics. I know virtually nothing about comic history. So this was a good, (very, very brief) start, which was 90% solely about underground comics.
