Commander Hamilton

A study of the Swedish post-feminist male ideal. Or why Swedish action films inevitably end up being cheesy. Mark Hamill is notably pedestrian.

Hamilton seems to exist as Sweden's answer to James Bond, but with a greater cognizance of Bond's fanciful problem-solving approach, the questionable rectitude of his methods, and the denigration of mercy as a virtue. Hamill chews up the scenery as the heavy, whose cheesy frankness almost scratches at the fourth wall. Unfortunately, the film only really picks up steam at the end, never overcoming its bland telefilm-ish direction, but it does contain two unforgettably awesome badguy comeuppances.

A run of the mill 90s spy thiller, kind of a Swedish Clear and Present Danger.
