It was very beautiful, even if some of the scenes dragged on a bit. I liked that there were real Fletcher Street riders among the actors and Idris Elba is always great to watch.

A unique setting, but a familiar story. Idris Elba's urban cowboy is honestly a far more compelling character than the troubled teen protagonist, and I wish the movie was more about him.

I really liked the tough love the father gave his kid. The acting was reasonably good, as was the production quality. Sets were mostly just shots from the bad parts of town. They did a poor job explaining how the thug life got the friend killed. Overall, the portrayal of these Philadelphia cowboys provided a lot more questions than answers. Worthwhile but not great.

All a bit obvious, unoriginal (other than the setting) and excessively sentimental.

I had the same thought as another reviewer. Felt the movie was pretty average and quite predictable, which was disappointing because the setting was so unique and interesting. Worth a watch with tempered expectations.

Everything to do with this real life community (several of whom play themselves in the movie) is fascinating, so it's a shame that the setting is used to tell a very familiar story of a young man torn between an easy life of crime and a tougher one of work and commitment. It's executed in an okay way by a really good cast, but a documentary about these fellows would have been a lot more interesting.

Elba leads with the conviction you would expect from an actor of his calibre. This true to life story roars to life on the big screen. Netflix is the best for bringings small scale gems like this to life and doing so with amazing courage and heart. McLaughlin stands his ground among some tremendous talent and this kid is going places. He will be a star in his own right one and its only a matter of time before he wins awards. Such a brilliant film.

Last year I saw the documentary Fire on the Hill (2018) which did a story on black cowboys in modern Compton, so it was something very familiar when I saw this Idris Elba sponsored feature film of the same subject, except in a Philly setting. Still ghetto, and using the horse rider lifestyle as a positive focus for troubled youth. It's a nice, often slow paced, smaller film. There is something really cool about riding horses cowboy-style down modern streets.

Predictable, but well executed. And engaging enough to give a recommendation.

the urban cowboys is an interesting and real setting; including real people from the community is a nice touch. the plot itself was pretty standard, but with some good performances to give it some life
