Coneheads is based on a Saturday Night Live skit. That synopsis should tell you enough about it. None of those movies have been great but if you grew up watching SNL then you are predisposed to give it a few bonus points when it comes to scoring the film. I liked this movie. The sheer number of SNL alums in this movie helps it. The overall story is pretty standard. The aliens come to earth, they make due, they go home, and they come back. There is good stuff here but it just doesn't hold up.

Not without a few giggles here and there, but for the most part this is pretty meh. Watching Aykroyd and Curtin act oddly isn't interesting enough material to fill a feature length runtime. Was a source of weird childhood memories.

Aykroyd is a weirdo, plain and simple, and he excelled when playing oddballs and floundered when he didn't. Coneheads is a true expression of Aykroyd's comedic personality, for better or worse, and proves definitively that his talent works best when it's tempered by the greater creative talents of others. Nonetheless, if you enjoy watching Aykroyd speak gobbledygook fast in a robotic voice, then Coneheads is for you. Extra points given for pulling off this bizarre comedy in the studio system.

In the annals of SNL skits turned feature films, this one falls flat in the middle. Not near the strength of its two predecessors, the original "The Blues Brothers"(1980) and the recently released "Wayne's World"(1992), but still better than films like the critical disaster "It's Pat"(1994) and box-office flop "The Ladies Man"(2000). The alien jokes get old and the immigrant in America allegory is really thick, but the film has a silly charm.

There's funny stuff in here, particularly from the daughter character, who acts exactly like a normal teenage girl aside from occasional flashes of weirdness (saying "parental units" instead of "parents," for example), made all the more hilarious by the fact that nobody calls her out on it, but it wore out its welcome long before the end. I can't believe I'm saying this, but "It's Pat" may very well be the best SNL movie by virtue of its sheer weirdness alone.

As funny as a guy with a misshaped head. But not as funny as Mike Myers as an old man belittling that misshapen head. It's like Sputnik, spherical but quite pointy in spots.

There are so many recognizable actors in this film. There is over a dozen SNL alumni alone. However there are only a few laughs in the entire movie. The actors try their best with the material but it often misses. Overall this is a disappointing comedy.

A quirky deadpan comedy that is Interestingly campy. I never saw the SNL sketch this is based on but I thought the movie was delightful anyways. It had tons of cameos (mostly SNL cast members) that are fun to pick out when an occasional joke misses. Nothing is ever laugh out loud funny, but it does a remarkably good job of keeping a smile on your face.

What an awful movie. Here is a thing I've learned, terrible movies 20 years ago are better than anything Happy Madison is throwing out now. Some great cameos and some good humour but overall it fails as a feature length film.

Pretty cliche turns of events we've seen in every single Hollywood "family" comedy. The coneheads were a mildly entertaining SNL skit but as a film it gets old pretty quickly. I admit I enjoyed this when I was about 14 years old.

The critics weren't kind and nobody went to see it, but this is actually one of the best (along with _The Blues Brothers_ and _Wayne's World_) "Saturday Night Live" movie spinoffs. What could have been just a one-joke story is well developed and fun, with a carload of SNL regulars in roles both large and small and some impressive FX at the end.

Another SNL skit brought to life. Spare me, please. It's not bad the first time through, really, but it's not something you really need to pay attention to either. It's one of those movies that play in the background while you're doing something mindless. Actually paying attention to it would be a mistake.

For a while there after Wayne's World, every marginally successful SNL sketch EVER got its own feature film. This is one of the few that was funny at all, it was kinda cool getting a glimpse at the Conehead homeworld. Of course, that's not to say this is a good movie by any stretch of the imagination.
