The first major shot at the Nazis by a Hollywood studio in the years before America's entry into WWII came from this Warner Bros. anti-Nazi propaganda docudrama. Based on the FBI investigation and trial of a Nazi spy ring, news of the story gripped the headlines and people of America, and with this the Warner Bros. saw the opportunity to make a socially conscious film that the public would be intere$ted in, but also one where they could attack Nazism from the safety of a "current events" film.

Hardly biased film making! But at least someone in Hollywood wasn't turning a blind eye to the Nazi movement. And not surprisingly it was Warner Bros who dared to touch such a hot taboo topic! Very much rooted in American side of the propaganda machine, ripping the Nazis apart, leaving not a thread of dignity left to Nazi sympathizers. And to deliver this headline ridden docu-drama they have Edward G. Robinson hunt down the bad men. Very effective in telling Americans what to think!

Topical expose with all concerned in top form; a semi-documentary very typical of Warner product throughout the thirties and forties, from _G-Men_ to _Mission to Moscow_ and _I Was a Communist for the FBI_; well made, punchy, and smartly edited, with a loud moral at the end.

What a fascinating movie, the first time Hollywood showed the nazis as evil, from before the beginning of WW2. Although it’s admirable their fervent critic of nazis, they sure do the “they are the complete evil guy spreading this hateful ideas in our society, while we are kind, egalitarian, not racist, very good guys” yeah sure buddy. Nevertheless I do note of the value as us propaganda at the time, even if it’s not particularly a good film.
