Conquest of Space

Conquest of Space is not exactly boring, but it's hardly riveting either. Production design looks cheap, but a charming cheap, and still relatively good for the decade, and there's a fun little sequence involving a giant meteor. None of that can really make up for what a horrific piece of writing it is though. Possibly one of the worst examples of the genre and decade that I've so far come across, and I don't think I can even recommend it on an ironic level.

"Conquest of Space" struggles with dated special effects that fall short by the standards of its era and a script heavily reliant on space sickness for its drama. It has a notably absurd cafeteria scene that teeters on the edge of being entertainingly bad, offering some unintentional humor.

Budget cuts and dull casting are the culprits in this least interesting of producer George Pal's '50s sci-fi films. The special effects are good but too much would-be comic relief and a really unbelievable ending make this film version of Werner von Braun's _The Mars Project_ seem more dated than it really is.

Clever production effects by George Pal, along with a rather bloodless narrative.
