Perhaps the worst film by a major director. And it's not as if Peckinpah was just going through the motions here, either. This is a very personal film, sort of a "Wild Bunch on Wheels," a "Smokey and the Bandit meets Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" . . . with fierce iconoclasm, the obligatory slow-motion fight sequences and a denouement featuring machine gun fire. Blame it on booze and blow if you want, but this is a quintessential Peckinpah film. And it stinks to high heaven.

It takes some kind of incompetence to make Smokey and the Bandit seem intelligent.

At the tail end of Peckinpah's career and the middle of the short Ali MacGraw's career, there is another CB radio/trucker movie entry. What a weird genre. Peckinpah has a few slow motion action bits that he was known for, but the rest is a march across the country for a cause I never really figured out. It is silly but not totally without some fun Americana nonsense.

Moronic machismo, 70's style. A highly inebriated Peckinpah probably found this routine redneck romp rather amusing while laughing all the way to the nearest bank/bar. Despite being a huge hit in its day, it has been largely forgotten. They certainly don't make them like this anymore, and we should be eternally grateful.

It's fun and good for a drinking game, but honestly pretty lame mostly.

Doesn't have the agonized view of masculinity that makes Peckinpah's best movies so great, opting instead for a more cookie-cutter hero (stone-faced Kristofferson) and some of those 1970s roadrunner antics, cop cars tumbling down hillsides and such (highly expressive Borgnine as the villain). If that stuff brings you joy, I guess you could do a lot worse than "Convoy".

What the hell was the point of this film? Smoky and the Bandit lite - Smoky wasn't exactly a masterpiece in the first place.

Almost as if Peckinpah saw SUGARLAND EXPRESS and attempted a remake with all of Spielberg’s “grace notes” removed – more interesting than SMOKEY AND THE CANNONBALL but not much better realised; Peckinpah’s patented slo-mo handling of the action does serve the film well, Kristofferson and MacGraw are fine if almost hilariously lacking any interpersonal chemistry; Borgnine steals it on the performance front, having a grand ol’ time as the redneck sherriff. Passable, but not much here stands out.

Probably a very good sunday morning hangover movie. Gotta test that theory some time.

I shouldn't really like this film, but I do. It's truck porn (and beautifully shot and staged at that) and features a very easy political slant and feels like it appeals to the cleverest of a dumb demographic, but it's still a load of damn fun, with some great stunts and scenic shots that will never grace the cinema screen by a new film.

A surprisingly goofy trucker movie that felt more Cannonball Run or Smokey and less White Line Fever. There are a few serious moments but they feel out of place. The Convoy scenes itself was pretty cool looking since you can tell its all real.

It's a trucker movie, which normally wouldn't appeal to me, but Peckinpah really makes it work. The action is fun, and not just on the road, and the good characterizations really lend some weight to the overall themes of the film. I also like the western feel and there's some great cinematography throughout. Peckinpah straddles the line between satire and sincerity, which I enjoy, though I don't think it quite works here as it feels more like weaving back and forth than straddling.

"This is the logical extension of what Howard Hawks did with a lot of his movies."

This film is over the top at times and not every scene works in it. The cast does a god job here. There are a number of interesting moments. Overall I would recommend this film.

if the cheesy, yet still not-good fun of the very beginning and the very end were maintained for the boring middle bulk of the movie we might all be remembering this fondly as a terrible and wild near cult classic. instead it thought it had a message or some crap. but it had kris kristofferson in a semitruck with no shirt on calling himself rubber duck. clearly the wrong elements were embraced.

Even without expectations that comes with Peckinpah's name this is a dull movie. Apart from a bar fight early in the movie and some car stunts there is nothing worth noting. Country music and truckers are just lame, however anti-establishment you try to make it. Drama and comedy just doesn't well in this movie; in the nd you wish you just watched Smokey and the Bandit instead.

The one thing I can say is the movie is better than the song that spawned it. Just not by much.

Endearingly dorky anti-establishment tale. It also laid to rest the fears that maybe there was one last masterpiece up Peckinpah's sleeve.
