Why does it have to be zany?

Cooties is campy, indulgent fun, reminiscent of 80's B-movie horror flicks, held together by the cast and their zany characters. Though only 90 minutes, the film feels longer partly due to being segmented into a comedy half and an action-horror half, with an ending that is both abrupt and a tad bit disappointing. Nevertheless, it's fun and there are definitely a few laughs to be had, especially early on.

Black Sheep, but with kids. Or, I dunno, a sort of mix between the comic Crossed and Muppet babies? It doesn't quite work and it just kinda ends arbitrarily, but I enjoyed some of the cast (Rainn Wilson!) and the meanness of the movie at times, especially regarding comically over the top violence caused by/towards kids. Yeah, the movie Goes There a few times, and I chuckled. But don't worry, my seat on the express donkey cart to hell is already secured.

A fun and engaging first half quickly dissolves into tired genre cliches with almost no attempt at maintaining the humor.

Runs outta steam after about the first hour, then sorta limps to an unsatisfying conclusion. Until then, though, it's a highly amusing throwback to all those cheerfully gory, more funny than scary, wildly un-PC horror romps of the 1980's. So, if you're nostalgic for the genre, be sure to check this out. If you're not, move along.

Pretty good! Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson shining in an otherwise forgettable cast, but the real stars are the directors who land some great shots throughout the entire movie. Pretty delightful even if the writing and cast don't always hit.

A fun gore-fest with Elijah Wood. It's not scary, but rather almost funny. If gore is offensive to you, this won't be a movie for you.

Who hasn't dreamed of landing their dream job? Who hasn't dreamed of writing their first novel? Who hasn't dreamed of winning the lottery? Who hasn't dreamed of flying into outer space? Who hasn't dreamed of Frodo killing children? No one, that's who. Well, I'm here to tell you that some dreams DO come true (and no, it's not the one about you finally writing that novel, slacker).

Mean-spirited and over the top in a way I maybe enjoyed a little too much. Great idea for a Cooties-themed movie night: serve your guests a giant heap of off-brand chicken nuggets, but one nugget was left under the fridge for a week. Thematic diarrhea!

First off.....LOVE the old school poster! This was mildly amusing with some decent gore, but it was a tad short and ended abruptly (possible sequel?)

Cooties just wants to be funny, be gory, and maybe offend those who think that children are untouchables in entertainment. It works when it comes to these things, at least for a while. I found it less funny as it progressed, perhaps because I grew tired of the one-note characters, but it does have some good lines. It's a mixed bag, one that had more potential than was realized.

There's a brilliant old horror movie about evil kids called "Who Can Kill A Child?" Turns out it's both easy and fun!

Wouldn't surprise me if there was a disgruntled primary school teacher involved in writing this. Funny in parts (the name on the blackboard killed me... Sorry) but would love to see this story done in a serious tone.

Horror comedy is incredibly difficult to pull off, if you can't do comedy horror is easier and in this case full on horror probably would've been more effective

The whole movie is unbalanced and the characters... ugh the damn characters. Who wrote this? Watch the opening title sequence and then turn off the movie.

I don't much care for horror comedies that lean so far into the comedy, but if you're gonna do so, it helps to be funnier than this.

Cooties is a cute satire on zombie movies. The cast is filled with comedic acting surprises. I really enjoyed the moments where the children were being beat by the teachers. Much of this movie is a commentary on teaching and how teachers are treated in America. Rainn Wilson is funny as the high school star athlete who becomes a P.E. teacher. I liked how he redeemed himself in the end. I thought that his character would be a stock jock but he actually decided that he loves teaching.

I thought this did exactly what it was trying to do. Not every joke hit, but that's expected. They had some gore but I thought they could've leaned ever further into the R rating.
