One of the most disappointing things in life is watching Kevin Bacon step out of a car, take a swig of beer, and not smash the bottle and cut loose, footloose.

Pedestrian mom was my favorite character. Bewildered by a chance encounter with a pair of young boys driving a cop car, she eventually reencounters them and immediately starts momming, screaming at them as they’re locked in the back of a cop car. What an arc she has. This is one of those movies that you didn’t ask for, you don’t need, it doesn’t offer all that much, but it’s perfect anyways. Hits a spot you didn’t know needed scratching.

The 80s movie starring Kevin Bacon that we've been waiting for for 30 years, Cop Car is driven by a simple, yet engaging screenplay, strong performances, and some expertly-crafted tension that will have you flinching all the way to an NRA-sponsored seminar on gun safety.

Extra points for having a beginning that reminds me of my childhood hikes across the countryside. Overall, the boys gave a good & realistic performance. The story was interesting, somewhat clever & had many tense moments & some humor. However, one gaping hole in the story was the motivations of the Sheriff and how the crazy situation got setup in the first place. Kevin Bacon was good. Even though the production costs were minimal, it was mostly entertaining & interesting to watch.

What's refreshing about this is that it has kids using child logic. While most films have 30 year old screenwriters trying to write dialogue for kids, this script feels genuine. The premise is simple and it works.

I think this is the first movie where Bacon is not walking around butt-naked.

A simple childhood adventure movie, albeit with some R-rated language and violence. Sometimes, perhaps, the two kids seem closer to six than to twelve. Unlike regular bacon, the Kevin variety seems to get better with age.

one part coen brothers and one part irreverent childhood shenanigans a la WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE or KID-THING. it's too slight and has no ending to speak of, but it's so much twisted fun.

It's frustrating to think how good this film could have been if it weren't for the off-putting juxtaposition of harsh, near blood-curdling violence and the genuine excitement of adventure of the boys. There are pockets of brilliance between the cacophonous chaos of ill-judged tone, as we get swept along by the genuine chemistry and charm of the boy's friendship which is natural, effortless and heart-warming to witness.

The first act has a good hook and sets up an intriguing and suspenseful story. There are some tense moments throughout, but the film mostly flatlines with the story lacking real twists and turns or significant developments. The characters are too surface level for a film that both plays it safe and unfolds exactly how you would expect.

Once Bacon is introduced the movie really picks up and becomes super entertaining. It was a nice throwback to movies that I loved from the 80s and did it really well. Shea Whigham is a super underrated actor, love the guy in everything I see him in and his speech to the kids could go down as the monologue of the year. Weak ending and a pretty awful first 5 minutes drug it down for me but it's hard not to imagine this getting some sort of following. YOU DON'T...STEAL...A FUCKING...COP CAR

On reflection the final act isn't particularly strong and it loses some of the wonderful tone that was being built up, but Cop Car is still quite a fun little suspense film. Watching the kids be idiots and Bacon scramble to find them is a lot of fun. The story is simple and it's supported by a competent script and direction that captures your attention with so little. The dark humor throughout is a great touch.

Enjoyable in a jarring, odd, uncomfortable and this-could-go-anywhere kinda way, if you can look past the underwhelming ending and pseudo-Gus Van Sant-esque opening five minutes.

A simple and straightforward suspense story, visually disguised as an indie drama. It messes up the pacing, but it also offers a few aesthetically impressive scenes in return. Let's just say this film has an dual identity, both of them are OK, but it would have been better if it was focused on either one of them.

Good character work by the likes of Whigham and Manheim. Excellent cinematography, too. Unfortunately, though, the "oh, come on!" quotient is off the charts, and we're nowhere near as invested in this thing as we oughtta be. More of an at-arm's-length stunt than an example of cohesive, effective storytelling.

The fact that it's unpredictable and tense doesn't mean it's good -- because it merely works as a festival film full of boring self-conscious shots and nothing that seems actually believable. The same old indie filmmaking PR trick we see in Slow West.

So, can Hollywood make a movie without any female models? Evidently so. How about without an A-list celebrity? Well, if Kevin Bacon is still A-list, then I guess not. There's basically a total of 4 people in this entire movie, with a couple of extras thrown in during one restaurant scene. Anyway, this review makes no sense. I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. Terrible ending, and a couple of missing scenes that could have made this much better. A solid 5 out of 7.

A small idea executed well. The cinematography is beautiful, and as you might expect in a movie that takes place in the West, the most loving shots are panoramics. When you create such a realistic setting and feature kid actors (who played their parts well), even the simplest things, like sneaking through a barbwire fence, can be full of tension. I also really liked the ending here. The movie would have benefitted from a less manic performance by the non-Kevin Bacon villain, though.

While Cop Car is entertaining in many scenes, the multi-perspective script makes it very hard to create a cohesive tone and narrative considering the characters involved.

Two boys find the car of a corrupt sheriff (Kevin Bacon) and take it for a drive; the sheriff tries to track them down while keeping his own crimes covered up. For the most part, an agreeable neo-B-movie, with an agreeably slimy performance from Bacon and a good score. It does fall apart a bit at the end, though, going for an ambiguous resolution which doesn't seem to fit what came before. But at 87 minutes, it's certainly not a waste of your time.

Provides quite a few good absurdist laughs (mostly from child actor Freedson-Jackson), but overall Cop Car feels a bit incomplete. There's a very good idea for a film here, but it's not greatly executed. Had the focus been more on the two younger characters, this film could have been more enjoyable. Kevin Bacon's character has a bit too much screen time and somewhat strips the fun out of it. Good pacing and makes for a quick watch at just under 90 minutes. Still, it exceeded my expectations.

Two 10 year old boys steal a Cop Car (2015).... and I'm pretty sure they won't do that again after this adventure. Having corrupted cop Kevin Bacon trailing your ass is not something you'd want. There is a off-beat slowness about this this thriller which works. While in some ways Cop Car has that child perspective, the main atmosphere is an adult one and it has it's share of graphic violence which gets a little uneasy when these 10 years olds. But I guess that's how the kids learn their lesson.

A very intense experience, that maybe faltered and dragged just a bit at times, but still managed to keep me hooked to see what would happen next. It's a simple idea, but shows that a lot can be made with such concepts. Those sweeping scenes of the plains added to the cold, distanced feel of the characters that were included in the story of these two boys, like they were truly two against the world. The Baconator, always excellent.

Good performances hold together this shaky ship of a thriller. The kids are mostly believable and Bacon is solid as the baddie. A couple of twists add some peaks but the movie is mostly an odd indie drama with very few ups and downs emotionally.

They copped out a bit with some of the story, but I enjoyed this tense film about two kids who steal a cop car from a shady Policeman. Kevin Bacon does a good job of trying to remain calm while his whole corrupt world is falling apart around him. The kids were both pretty great, although I'm still not a huge fan of child actors. They sure had me nervous while they were playing with guns and defibrillators...

Cop Car is a simple but well executed idea. For the minority that watch and enjoy this, they will probably regard this as one of the unnoticed and unsung gems of 2015. The opening 5 minutes aren't very promising but this soon becomes an entertaining & unpredictable suspense thriller. Tonally it's a mixture of innocent boyhood adventure, deep tension and black comedy. But I never knew where this was going to go next, it looks & sounds great and Kevin Bacon & Shea Whingham are both oddly perfect.

Simply done suspense that foregrounds the feeling of having absolutely no idea what might happen next. The wide open spaces of eastern Colorado work very well here, creating a stark backdrop against which Watts presents his well-paced action. The film lacks a consistent tone, at times leaning toward dark drama, at other times toward black comedy. In the end, it's certainly an entertaining way to spend an evening.

The movie begins with a creative title sequence, which involves letters backlit by flashing emergency lights. Some of the scenes brought back lots of childhood memories, but other times, the kids made unrealistic choices like one wearing the bullet proof vest while letting the other shoot him. Kevin Bacon was fun to watch, and I wish he had more screen time. It is unfortunate that the movie didn't carry out the tone it set at the end and instead copped out - no pun intended. More bacon, sensi
