"Corsage" is a beautifully shot and well-acted biopic that provides a nuanced exploration of Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Hungary. Intriguing film-I knew nothing about the subject matter and this reimagining is definitely more fantasy than reality-but it contains a lot of truth about the experience of woman caught in such a position. Stunning soundtrack and humorous use of touches of modern everyday life in an historical setting -pasta for dinner!

An hour in i realized i was only watching it out of historical interest, feeling undernourished on a storytelling level; once i realized it's a completely fictionalized retelling i lost my interest instantly and called it quits. Might try again some time.

Typifies modern day films' lack of a through-line amongst its mosaic piecemeal assembly, making it feel pointless and unentertaining. Hearing that the real-life Sissi was hardly the proto-feminist she's depicted here and more of a toxic nasty woman makes this film all the more dishonest whilst ignoring a better storytelling opportunity.

While watching Corsage, I was enchanted, I laughed, I had fun, I was sad, even my eyes filled with tears. Empress Elisabeth's cynical attitude after turning 40, the depression and crisis she experienced, has come to life again in Vicky Krieps' body. Stunnig film.
