Typifies modern day films' lack of a through-line amongst its mosaic piecemeal assembly, making it feel pointless and unentertaining. Hearing that the real-life Sissi was hardly the proto-feminist she's depicted here and more of a toxic nasty woman makes this film all the more dishonest whilst ignoring a better storytelling opportunity.

There's been a number of pseudo-realistic-portrayals-of-historical-women in the last 10-15 years. "Pseudo" in the sense that they ask us to consider them as trapped by their time but not trapped in it; giving them a two-way mirror into the present and a bunch of couldashouldawouldas. Corsage isn't the best of them, but it's up there, thanks in large part to Vicky Krieps. Where do you go to when your job is done? Just keep tightening the strings.

The real story is better. Don't try to change history. There could be a much dramatic story told while sticking to accuracies. The storyline started great and was not pushed forward much. By the time something happened the audience was lost and confused.

I liked Marie Kreutzer and Vicky Kriep's version of Sissi. It seemed more real than previous Sissi stories. Especially when she turned 40. No more offsprings for the emperor and no more the youth she used to have.

"Corsage" is a beautifully shot and well-acted biopic that provides a nuanced exploration of Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Hungary. While it lacks some nuance and fails to fully delve into its protagonist's life, it's still an enjoyable watch that offers a compelling look at the insane pressures put on women in the spotlight.

Midlife crisis in a gilded cage. The best parts of this royal slow-motion breakdown--aside from Krieps' controlled performance--are all the keen visual metaphors for depression.

Intriguing film-I knew nothing about the subject matter and this reimagining is definitely more fantasy than reality-but it contains a lot of truth about the experience of woman caught in such a position. Stunning soundtrack and humorous use of touches of modern everyday life in an historical setting -pasta for dinner!

An hour in i realized i was only watching it out of historical interest, feeling undernourished on a storytelling level; once i realized it's a completely fictionalized retelling i lost my interest instantly and called it quits. Might try again some time.

While watching Corsage, I was enchanted, I laughed, I had fun, I was sad, even my eyes filled with tears. Empress Elisabeth's cynical attitude after turning 40, the depression and crisis she experienced, has come to life again in Vicky Krieps' body. Stunnig film.
