Crank (2006)

Chev Chelios (Statham) is about to begin his morning with an unexpected wake-up call. Groggy, practically unable to move and with a heart that's barely beating, he hears the voice of thug Ricky Verona, who reveals Chev has been poisoned in his sleep and only has an hour to live. As it turns out, Chev is a hit man who freelances for a major West Coast syndicate... (Lionsgate)

The Man Who Couldn’t Slow Down. Best use of Quiet Riot since Footloose, actually it’s probably the only use since Footloose. Nurse Dennis.

HUGE guilty pleasure. Good popcorn movie. This is how you make a "video game" movie. Non stop action, cheesy (but such cool) one-liners, and cool ass fight scenes.

Guilty pleasure and the perfect popcorn movie in my book. Cheesy one liners, a shitload of action and good fighting. Another one of those so bad it's good movies.

Hilarious and ridiculous. Great action. Not too short, not too long. Doesn't take itself seriously which is a very good thing.

This movie is fucking sweet. Relentless energy and action, with a nice mix of comedy. Jason Statham is pretty much playing the same badass he always is, but here he's the most likable and, due to his predicament, the most sympathetic. I don't know how anyone can't have fun watching this.

The first proper action movie in years. If anybody you meet complains about the lack of character development or lengthy exposition then punch them in the face. Twice. When they ask why you just broke their nose tell them "That was for missing the point you dumb shit".
That'll learn 'em.

Ridiculous, energetic and relentlessly action-packed, Crank is a high voltage adrenaline-pumping, senseless popcorn movie that requires you to frequently excuse it for its obvious misconceptions for you to enjoy it. Tons of fun, undoubtly outrageous, full of loads of violence and with Staham's upmost charm, Crank is purposely like a GTA game, except you're watching it.

It started off promising with the really out of place, but still awesome, placing of New Noise by Refused. It went for over the top, adrenaline pumping action but it actually kind of bored me. I also think that while Statham is a decent enough action star, he belongs in more low key roles.

This is why movies suck. People use the same arguments for why this is good as others use to argue why Transformers is good. Except here its ok to have guilty pleasures that are just shit like this, but everyone has to hate on Transformers. This is shit. Fuck all y'all that made my PSI a 74. Its possible to make a good action movie, but even you people who supposedly hate awfulness like Transformers support this shit so it keeps getting made. Fuck You

Rarely have I seen a movie with more action and comedy done so well. It's kind of like Run Lola Run, but I enjoyed this way more. The scene where he starts pounding down red bulls made my stomach hurt I was laughing so hard. Statham is money.

Jason's presence and unique style hold this one-idea movie together so well you really forget it's all a bit straight-forward. A cross between Speed and DOA in idea this really works despite the rather simple premise and is certainly worth a look for any action fans out there

This movie wears its heart on its sleeve and rightly so. From the opening 8-bit graphics title that was ridiculous enough to be awesome, Crank takes you for a ride that just does not stop. My only complaint is that most of the movie is so crazy and fun that the regular scenes seem overly slow by comparison.

This movie will literally keep you on the edge of your seat for it's duration. It is eighty five minutes of non stop action and it will feel like you have been watching it for 15 minutes. Stathams performance is astounding and any guy will like this movie.

Crank is the 'God Hand' of films. The story and most of the characters don't even matter. It's just pure fun and pure entertainment. A series of action set pieces tied together with a wafer thin plot chock full of great lines. There's no way that you can't enjoy this film, in fact... if you don't then you're dead inside. DEAD INSIDE! If however you enjoyed this film (like you should have!) then go and buy God Hand for your PS2!

It's all ridiculous, and yet entertaining to the say the very least. "Crank" is filled with more originality in its eighty minutes than most can fit in an overlong two-and-a-half hour duration, and is one of the first films to 'literally' be action-packed from beginning to end. The final scene will have your brain oozing in the best kind of sheer disbelief, and while I won't spoil anything, I must say, what a way to go out.

Frantic, psychotic and downright entertaining. While the directorial style may leave something to be desired, with an obvious injection of humour and slightly slapstick take on gratuitous violence it certainly stands out from the crowd. Statham makes a great lead for such an idiotic affair blending right into the hectic pace and senseless, almost paradoxical nature of many scenes. Disposable characters, relentless firepower and a huge dose of bioengineered adrenaline. What's not to like?

A huge surprise. I rolled my eyes at the very idea of the film, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the hell out of it. Like their drugged-up hero, Neveldine & Taylor are on a mission and they will not roll over and die until it's done. That mission is to save the Big Dumb Actioner, a genre that has lost its way in the age of Michael Bay. The only good action these days comes from serious sources like the Bourne films, but these guys are doing their damnedest to correct that. A fine debut.

The epitomy of a love-it-or-hate-it film. People out there despise this movie like it stole their child and killed their parents, but it's just dumb fun.

Very good, very entertaining , really hilarious and.. yeah just great. Special way of filming and showing everything, a new refreshing thing and I really liked it. This movie is a concatenation of action and humour. This movie never bore you, but I could understand it if some people may think it's just too much.

Terrible. Holy hell was this ever a terrible movie. If you're in the mood for a movie that's so bad it's good, then this is a great pick. But if you have any desire for a coherent plot, plausible story progression, relatable characters, or a satisfying conclusion, then look elsewhere.

Holds up on repeated viewings. The perfect movie to watch with Some Of The Guys and a few drinks. Laughs, crazy stunts, boobs, stupid fun. Feels like GTA: The Movie that luckily never takes itself seriously.

The basic premise is moderately interesting (although I guess it's just "Speed" with a human instead of a bus) but this felt more like a vehicle for gimmicky MTV-influenced editing tricks than an actual movie. Recommended mostly for teenagers who are out of Adderall refills.

Provides an injection of dementia combined with a low-grade lobotomy - and I mean that in the most positive way possible. Something about the pacing and joyous stupidity lowers my defences, and judging by my drooling smile and mistimed hand-clapping, also provides considerable enjoyment. Witness me trying not to feel guilty.

A bloody mental concept, think 'Speed' in a human. Highly enjoyable, although frankly a bit stupid, it's probably one of the most original films I've seen in the action genre in some time. 'Juice me'.

Not exactly The Godfather, but it doesn't try to be. It succeeds admirably in doing what it set out to do, and that is being non-stop action from start to finish. The viewer is made to feel - insofar as possible - how Chev Chelios must feel as he frantically tries to keep his adrenaline pumping through every minute of running time, as though his life depends on it - which it does. The fast pace and "theme park ride" feel of the film reminded me of Shoot 'Em Up... Which isn't a bad thing.

This is what happens when somebody who spent entire life playing video-games gets the idea and resources to make a 'movie'. I already see hordes or pimpled boys having wet dreams about them growing up to be cool just like Chev! Pathetic.

Make no mistake, this isn't a movie it's a game. You don't hold any controls, but it's just a frikkin game. Hyper real, overly sylised at times and completely insane from start to finish. And Statham's calm demeanor throughout adds that extra bit of insanity. Great stuff

What a great action flick. Jason Statham is the perfect man for this role and him banging Amy Smart in front of hundreds of people is easily the best scene of the movie.

If you're looking for aggressive, campy violence, Crank is one of the best of its kind. It's the movie equivalent of a Grand Theft Auto game, right down to using drugs as powerups. I loved it.

svnhf | 51 27th |
A fun and brutally honest movie where you get exactly what you expect. There isn't really a plot, not a message, not really any deep characters, the premise is really very rather silly; it really is a pretty flimsy movie in general but it is just so entertaining. I mean, there is never a quiet scene here. Literally everything is adrenaline-pumping action. Crank is the most flawed flawless movie and it is a fantastic modern take on the 80's action kitsch.

Cheerfully silly action flick is essentially SPEED with Statham playing the bus (!) - the complete absurdity of the premise lets the film-makers get away with murder, essentially negating any other credibility criticisms and thankfully never stopping long enough to draw breath or serious contemplation. Statham makes a fine dogged, sweaty, panicky hero and Smart makes a hell of a meal of her ditsy-blonde-to-the-max caricature.

Top badass moment? Discovering that anything you don’t really understand is best referred to as “Chinese synthetic shit” if you’re hanging out with bad-ass gangsta types. Ryan Reynolds lookalike Jason Statham scowls a lot, exposes his bottom far too much for my taste and aggravates most of LA with his really annoying Nokia ring tone, whilst trying to look after possibly the most stupid girlfriend ever to exist on planet Earth. It reminded me of Speed. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
