The cliches didn't bug me because the movie was so self aware that it embraced and relished in the cliches so much that it became comedic. *rain starts falling after bad moment* Steve Carrell: This is such a cliche. Gosling is once again fantastic, as we can expect by now. The ending was so ridiculous and over the top that it actually worked. Couldn't stand the son or the babysitter sub plot though. One of the better movies in its genre.

Falls into the very cliché territory it tries to turn on its ear, which it does rather amusingly at a certain point, yet the former remains one my biggest pet-peeves. The cast barely saves the day, providing many laughs thanks to some sharp comic timing. Next for 200 points: hollow objects Julianne Moore can fill up with her tears.

I wasn't totally impressed until a certain unexpected scene took place. That added so much more weight to the emotion, the story and the performances which was definitely needed. However, it didn't really sustain it all in the way I had hoped. But heck, it's crazy, it's stupid and it's pretty lovely

C,S,L has the correct amount of cliches, but, as a romantic comedy, it succeeds in both parts. Credit the cast, because they brought shear entertainment to each character in an otherwise only slightly better-than-average script. Tomei pretty much steals all her scenes and Gosling does his thing in the Gosling Era that we are in right now. I liked it.

As hard as it tries, it doesn't overcome the confines of its genre any more than it avoids being both cheesy and predictable, but Ryan Gosling certainly succeeds on some level at making this rom-com at least slightly enjoyable.

Something about this really won me over. I don't know if it was the subtle self-awareness, which embraces its cliches without needing to point them out, the characters, who are genuinely good people with a nice amount of depth and talented people playing them, or the script, which is nicely complex and has some very well-done twists while also being damned funny. Probably a mixture of all three, to be honest. Son/babysitter subplot is pretty creepy from beginning to end though.

Steve Carell does a little indy ever year (Dan in Real Life, Little Miss Sunshine) and they're generally rather good. This is no exception. Basically a movie version of High School Never Ends. When it comes to love, whether your 13 or 44, we're all idiots. And the nice guys think they want to be players, when it's actually the other way around. Good stuff with some nuts moments.

I got nothing but enjoyment from this film. It has great cast, with great performances from Gosling, Carell & the probably overlooked Tipton. It made me laugh out loud more than expected, & had some great subtle moments. The script & characters are strong too; their relationships meaningful, all helping this movie to have an unexpectedly strong impact. There's an acute self-awareness here, and it makes those cheesy scenes so much more enjoyable. A slightly surprising personal favourite.

Better than most romantic comedies. The presence of Stone, Carrell and that young kid (whoever he is) elevates the humour. I was a little weirdly put off by the whole... child porn aspect to the story. It's a nice story but I didn't really connect with it's message.

It's smarter and funnier than the comedies we see every weekend, because it seems really affective, the acting is great, and it has some reassuring, good-hearted characters all around -- maybe too many characters, by the way. In the end, I had the feeling that they were just cheating on me -- that climax with everyone gathered around, and actually there were two climaxes. But, I don't know, maybe it's hard not to fall for this.

Utterly absorbing, hilarious and touching. It also has an adorable cast of actors: Tomei offers the funniest supporting performance of recent years, Bacon is great even though he doesn't have a particularly inspired role, while Carell, Moore, Gosling and Stone all get their chance to shine.

For i guy like me, who enjoy romantic comedies and still a big fan of the classical Hollywood narrative (well executed, of course), this movie was a really good surprise. It was fun, sometimes heartbreaking, it treated respectfully its characters and develop well most of them. There is one or another cheesy, corny or cliche moment here and there but mostly, for me, the movie worked very well and was way more inteligent than most of romantic comedies nowadays.

Crazy Stupid Love is the type of film that's satisfying in the moment but after it's over, you'll have nothing more to think about. It's not a long-lasting film, and you'll likely feel disappointed as it draws its final breaths. It goes on for too long, running out of steam a good twenty minutes before it concludes. It's a movie that rests on its star power and it's a good thing to put on to pass a couple of hours while waiting to do something more important.

I can't tell if this is a harsher critique of men or women, but it certainly makes each sex look rather unappealing on the surface. But the meat of the movie lies with the quiet moments, the conversations and exchanges between these characters as they dissect the truth about love.

Knockout comedy/drama; devilishly clever screenplay sets up an array of lovable characters and cleverly charts their intersections, while never feeling contrived. Carell's likable performance is matched by reliably excellent Moore and Gosling, and wonderful cameo from Tomei. The film's warmth and moments of genuine humour balanced by darker themes of stalking and obsession; a rare American comedy that is able to laugh at sex without employing crass smut. An unexpected delight.

The script is certainly self-aware of the rom-com tropes that it ultimately employs itself, but I would have had more respect for the film if it had taken more chances. It really stumbles and loses focus in the end, after having effectively woven these disparate stories together, held by a fantastic cast!. Fun, if not a tad too long! Were two climaxes really necessary? (That's what she said.)

Ok... I was very sceptical before I started watching this movie. Comedy usually doesnt rate all that high and I'm not a big fan of most of Steve Carells movies... but what a pleasant surprise. I guess it's because all the actors were brilliantly cast, the drama had the upperhand (vs comedy) and let's not forget Ryan Gosling, a brilliant up and coming actor. Great character development (thats what the story is about anyway). Great twist at the end haha. Love Emma Stone!

I actually really liked this! Carell is so good at playing sad, mid-life crisis dad. I liked Emma Stone's character--I'm sure many women could relate to her. But I also loved the overexaggeration of the acting and plot in some places. The mini-golf surprise scene was just so absurd that it worked.

"Crazy, Stupid, Love." is presented as a self-aware romcom for adults and although it fails to provide enough insight or avoid plot contrivances, it remains an adequately entertaining and occasionally quite funny diversion. It benefits from a strong cast, energetic direction and a snappy script that's nevertheless not daring enough to shun a forced, feel-good conclusion and a cringe-worthy speech about true love. The film is enjoyable overall, but its clichés prevent it from being truly special

In a world where only good movies are made, this is how CSL would have ended: Marisa Tomei is more than a 1-note character and she ends up with Carrell. Julianna Moore ends up with Kevin Bacon, full of regret and doubt. The kid who thinks he's in love with that girl suddenly bumps into some girl a little closer to his age and instantly falls in love. The Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling thing would have gotten bumpy when she realizes he uses The Game. Instead, we get this movie.

I'll be the first to say, this isn't really a film for me, but I have a soft spot for these rom com, morally driven, and cheesy films. I think Carell and Gosling have a lot of chemistry and you buy into Carell and his issues, even being that I have never experienced such ones. I'm really into phycological stuff, being my age, I only know so much, but I do enjoy watching characters overcome obstacles and watching people evolve, even if it's a bit cliche and drawn out at this point.

I think some people are confusing the way this movie shifts back and forth in story and mood for having a lack of focus. Rather, I feel the movie has strong focus in multiple places. So happy to see Steve Carell play this kind of character; and at this point, he can do very little wrong. Toss on Julianne Moore (who is fucking gorgeous and still so underrated), Emma Stone (also fucking gorgeous and underrated), Gosling, Bacon, Tomei, and a new-but-beautiful face (Analeigh Tipton). Leaning a little more to the drama side of the 'dramedy' spectrum, don't expect a laugh a minute. The film starts off very strong - good character development and story carry you straight into a well constructed climax, sadly only to descend into a resolution awash with corny clichés and all the romcom pitfalls I'd hoped the film had managed to sidestep. Stone's role is potentially too small, but Carell does a good job as lead, with Gosling providing solid support.

If all the excitement, surprise, quick-fire dialogue and action of the crucial reveal scene had been spread evenly throughout the film, it would really be quite something. As it is, the first 3/4 are watchable but all fairly predictable with Carrell playing his usual character and Gosling, Baines, Moore et al playing generic roles. I liked the cast but the story was too formulaic. The ending compensated for this, but it remains an uneven film. All involved will have better career highs.

Gosling can't act. Julianne Moore can, though, and her scenes are generally very good. Still, the writing is poor with way too many undeveloped characters, failed attempts at comedy, and plot based entirely on dumb coincidences. The first half is like a very bad knockoff of Hitch. I find most romantic comedies nauseatingly dumb, especially Hollywood ones, so CSL came as a pleasant surprise. It doesn't go for realism, it is a feel-good fairytale where love conquers everything, and everyone is happy in the end. The target audience is adults, who are usually done with naiveté, and probably that is the reason why this film is comparatively sophisticated. Gosling became Hollywood male sex symbol.
