Son of a bitch: Adrian's Revenge - Rocky Remix ended up being great. I didn't like the fight scenes that much in Rocky Balboa (too "REAL") but they find the perfect blend between make this look like HBO boring realism and "I AM SEEING THE PAST I GOT PUNCHED SO FUCKING HARD IN THE HEAD" perfectly.

This movie was fantastic! Coogler and Jordan team up again to make something that is not only a solid boxing movie, but overall, a very well-made film in general. The script makes it an entertaining experience to watch Rocky and Creed connect with each other and learn new things about themselves. The directing was really gritty and really made you feel like you were in the ring with the boxers. While Stallone is getting harder to understand, he's still awesome as Rocky and Jordan is fantastic.

A new film in the Rocky franchise that can actually go toe to toe with the first Rocky film! This film is amazing, Coogler is another director who shows that if you want to revive a franchise, have a fan of that franchise at the helm. Coogler is a fan and he shows it. Jordan and Stallone are amazing, especially Stallone who arguably turned in his best performance yet! It will be really exciting to see what Coogler, Jordan and Stallone do with the Creed sequel.

I have 2 assume all the love this is getting is for the moving Rocky arc b/c unlike Star Wars I spent most of my time waiting for the old guy 2 come back on. Performances & direction r top notch, but as a character, the adult Adonis Creed lacks much of the vulnerability & all of the humor & humility that made Rocky such a likeable underdog. While Rock was genuinely shocked to discover he had any chance at greatness, Creed - except for 1 fleeting moment - behaves as if it were long overdue.

Stallone's most honest and heartbreaking role ever. Part of what makes the film so remarkable is how the mythologizing of Rocky Balboa ruptures the fourth wall and becomes reality itself. It isn't just a film about Rocky growing old and having his body break down; it's also about Stallone's coming to terms with his own mortality, and with it all the happiness of years past fading away to memory. It's devastating, but done so completely earnestly in a way that earns its tears. Tremendous.

I wasn't as enamored with this as so many others seem to be. I think it's far too formulaic without doing much to mix it up and stand out. Jordan, Stallone and Thompson all put in top notch performances, but they're held back by a very safe and stale story. I was also slightly annoyed by how rarely they tapped into the deep pool of music tracks from past installments. Stallone and Conti are the heart and soul of the franchise, and it was a mistake to include so little of the classic soundtrack.

Undeniably on par with the original. Creed exemplifies what can be done to revitalize a franchise, without taking it to an unnecessarily cheesy or forced level. Jordan, Stallone, and Thompson are all undeniably lovable in roles both familiar and new. Coogler's direction is also to be praised, as he takes the nostalgic path with a fresh, new feel. Maybe not an Oscar winner, but Creed will be in the top ten of 2015.

It's hard to know what to say about a Rocky film, because you know exactly what beats it's going to hit, so I'll just say this is nimbly directed and that Michael B. Jordan is, as expected, excellent.

Not the best Rocky movie (and yes, I have ranked all of them 100 because I have no objectivity) but it's awesome. Coogler brings a different feel to the franchise; it's grimmer but it still has moments of lightness. It's Jordan's best performance and Stallone is once again BRILLIANT as Rocky. The final boxing match is a short film in itself, like they all have been. Coogler brings his own flavour but keeps the Rocky spirit alive. It's hard not to feel way too many emotions during it.

Continues the 2006 Rocky Balboa trend back towards grounded drama to great effect, especially now that it's in the hands of a talented new director and lead. I think it's well established at this point that the best Rocky movies are the ones where you lose the fight but win in life. Basically the exact same plot as the original, and that's not even a mark against it.

Creed is almost as good a Rocky movie could get - which means that, yes, it's better than the original. With a strong emotional core, amazing boxing, and great acting, Creed is a fantastic movie. It follows the Rocky formula we've come to expect, but injects it with a new life and with small details that make it feel fresh again. Creed is a home run, slam dunk, hole-in-one, ace, and any other sports metaphor you can think of. Oh yeah: Creed is a knockout!

Having loved Fruitvale Station, I had been screaming for Ryan Coogler's next movie, and I was surprised, but intrigued when I read it was going to be Creed. Unfortunately, there isn't a single remotely original moment in Creed. It reminds me especially of Rocky V, which is a shame because Rocky V is best forgotten -- Rocky Balboa was far better. It seems like this will be a spinoff franchise, in which case I plead with the future sequel's writers to stop recycling Rocky's sappiest elements.

I wasn't quite on the same cloud nine of euphoria walking out of this movie as with Rocky Balboa, but that isn't to say it wasn't great itself. Coogler injects the fight scenes with terrific, edgy adrenaline and Stallone and Jordan both do great work. I have to admit I do kinda miss Paulie, who was an asshole, but as asshole who livened things up with his assholishness. But still, pretty kick-ass boxing movie; will definitely buy the bluray and add it to my Rocky collection.

Started strong but completely stalled out halfway in. It seemed like they were eventually going to develop and expand on the Adonis character, only that never actually happened. For me, he never moves past the "guy with abandonment issues who wants to make his own way" trope. I mean, it's not like Apollo even abandoned him -- he got freaking beat to death. I would have liked this so much more if there was ANY quirk or foible that added even a perfunctory second dimension to his personality.

I feel so bad because I'm doing that thing that you really shouldn't do, and that's compare this movie against what I feel is the best of the franchise (Rocky Balboa). And this movie doesn't HAVE to be that movie, like I've said a dozen times, but Creed just feels... off. It feels rushed if I'm being honest. Stuff isn't given the time I feel it needs or deserves to breathe. Performance-wise, it's great, and the production values are there. I just feel that it pales in comparison to its cousins.

Every word spoken and every action propel this film forward, but to what end? It's completely without nuance or playfulness, rather generic, and often pales in comparison to the original film, especially when it underwhelmingly references it. Stallone is surprisingly the one to bring a little juice to this, his anti-Expendables performance is the highlight of the film.

Awesome film, perhaps the best of the series. A distinct film that manages to reference tropes of the series without feeling like a rehash at all. The cinematography is stellar, with some of my favorite camerawork of the year. Michael B. Jordan is great and in a certain moment looks damn near exactly like Carl Weathers from the first films. Stallone puts in a wonderfully understated role. Highly recommended.

The very definition of an audience-pleaser. Watching this on Thanksgiving night with a cheering, screaming, crying sellout crowd was an unforgettable experience. CREED does more than just push all the right buttons, though. It's also an astoundingly graceful drama, with assured, exciting direction from Coogler and a slow-building, satisfying script that pays off heavily in the third act. All this, plus thrilling boxing sequences, and Stallone's best performance ever. See it!

One of the most interesting things in Creed, to me, is the way it functions like a bizarro Greek myth. Apollo Creed is a deific figure, his grandeur only captured in images and stories, his death treated less like a demise than an ascension. Thus, Adonis is positioned as the demigod hero, simultaneously trying to prove that he is more than his blood and that he is worthy of his lineage. He seeks a legendary tutor and undertakes trials, but ultimately, his true victory is over and for himself.

Michael B. Jordan was a charismatic choice in this reboot of the Rocky franchise but his character spends a lot of time brooding. Sylvester Stallone was showing his age. His instant girlfriend (Tessa Thompson) was cute. The director injected a few too many unnecessary & unsatisfying theatrics. I disliked the rap music. Too serious, somewhat formulaic & overly sentimental but there were a few inspired moments in the ring that nearly redeems it.

The motivation of the protagonist, Adonis, can be muddled at times, and certain elements (such as the romance) can be distracting, but 'Creed' is the most visually impressive picture in the Rocky series, and the film excels where it's most important: in the relationship between Adonis and Rocky and with the gratifying journey the two embark on together.

I don't even particularly like Rocky movies but I still got caught up in the last fight's ending. Sweeping, emotionally-blunt Hollywood filmmaking doesn't get better than that three/four minute stretch. I prefered Rocky Balboa to this - it's proven now that the Rocky franchise has a story to tell but isn't Creed just telling a slight variant on a story they've already told told? Felt that way to me. Starts off with a bang, but soon retreats into a safe space of inspirational mumbo jumbo extolling the virtues of dedication even as it half assedly wags its finger at the horrible the reality of boxing. Still, it's a well done boxing story, with a great lead performance, and feels like a disappointment mostly just because of how bluntly it undermines its own mythos even as it builds it up. The portrayal of the shallow sports media is brutal, even more so because they don't seem to realize it.

The long-take fight shots were engrossing. The various attempts at emotional manipulation were at turns effective ("that I'm not a mistake") and cringe-inducing. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't think MBJ is a good actor. He seems to be an acolyte the Will Smith School of Acting: strain thy face, enter the Oscar race. Their Method includes thinking through long division problems, and a low fiber diet to induce constipation-face. Self-aware, I don't like it.

So believable and emotionally rewarding that it feels impossible not hold your tears during this. Coogler looks at the past of the franchise like a gentle guest, with visual and memory remarks that only serve so he can build an entire new character through Jordan's abrasive and committed acting -- and that it even takes him to do a joke about clouds and film boxing scenes with an amazing sense of realism, always through long shots. Unexpectedly genuine.

Smooth and coherent visuals, excelling at opportunities to illustrate the simultaneous beauty and grotesque nature of boxing as an athletic art form. Doesn't amount to any truly moving moments. The love arc is authentic feeling but a bit underwritten in the last act. Not sure how she thematically fits in with the rest. Sly adds some reckless levity and weight to his role. It now makes complete sense why he's in the awards talk. Jordan, like the rest of the film, is merely adequate.

Easily the best I've seen from Stallone acting wise where he steps into his old shoes only to give his most honest Balboa performance ever. Creed is one hell of a film from start to finish. Immediately we are given a reason to connect with Adonis Johnson . Full of heart, courage and determination, Creed exemplifies how hard work can pay off. Jordan is a phenomenal young actor and this is the best work from Stallone in years. Jordan shows great chemistry with Stallone, calling Rocky Unc most of the film. It was the tender moments he shared with Rocky and leading lady Tessa Thompson that really showed his range and vulnerability.

I'm stuck wondering if this is a 'passing the baton' film for Jordan or if it's a Coach Rocky reboot. Either way, we get a format straight out of the 80's including a training montage. You can pick it's beats because they're so familiar, eg the love interest introduction. Shakes the dust off the old franchise and gives it a slick 21st century reworking. Safe, easy watching, good for a plane flight.

I'm a boxing nut. It was a bit fun spotting all the famous boxers. And there were some fun lighter momemts, but aside from that, so much of this was laying down the runway...but it never took liftoff for me. That said, the fight scenes were incredible, with the camera so close to the action it was practically filmed by the participants while they threw punches! I think the biggest problem was the uninteresting, generic baddies. Anyone remember any of their names? Anything they did or said?

Distracting love angle was rather weak stacked up to the convincing father/son and Father Time Kicks Your Ass angles. Some scenes were simply sublime; Stallone crumbling as he sees his (and Rocky's) time being "past". A man of grit and pride losing his ego and transcending to memory. Could have been tighter and leaner, but popped its shots off sincerely.

Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), the son of Apollo Creed, tries to make it as a boxer on his own merits--under the watchful eye of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), no less--but learns to embrace his father's legacy. Generally rousing revival of the series, an improvement in objective terms even upon the original ROCKY. Forceful direction by Ryan Coogler (with some stunning long takes), fine work from Jordan and Stallone, and a truly gripping finale make up for overlength and rough patches.

This is how you do a reboot. Like JJ Abram's 2009 Star Trek, this flick breathes new life into a franchise by making it less dated & stale. But at the same time Sly Stallone is amazing, showing an aging, kinder Rocky who has so much wisdom and inspiration to share. Director Ryan Coogler uses his familiar tropes, including love of a city and a fatherless kid caught in a system. But it's heightened by the camerawork, fights, and music. The only misstep is the every boxer's girlfriend character.

I love a good boxing flick. This was a tad predictable, but offered some good drama and action on the ropes.

Even though the pic feels slow at times and at least a half hour too long, it's not too difficult to stay in your ringside moviehouse seat. I wish they'd left the profanity and sexual nods on the mat right along with the sweat and the blood, certainly. But there's something undeniably affirming and upright about the rest of this. Something that might even make you want to say "Yo!" (pluggedin.com)

A mashup of Rocky, Rocky V, and Rocky Balboa complete with superfluous romantic subplot and sentimental crap like a visit to Paulie's grave. Recommended only for lovers of part 5, whoever they may be

After the last Rocky movie (Rocky Balboa) I swore never again would I watch Stallone in yet another remake. Still I found myself watching and to my surprise it wasn't bad. Maybe my expectations were so low it, it seemed better than it was. It's a copy of the first film, yet it's also a tribute to all the Rocky films that were remakes before it.

If you've seen one Rocky film, you've seen them all; so don't expect anything out of the ordinary from a plot view point. But they have managed to create a boxing film, with so much more heart and emotion. Michael B. Jordan is great, but Sly did really deserve that nomination with a very "real" and heartfelt performance as an ageing Rocky.

A lot better than any film in a 7 film series should be. Director Coogler took ingredients & characters from earlier Rocky films, and cooked up something interesting that is both contemporary & nostalgic at the same time.
His style is a combination of gritty realism mixed with over the top montages. Likewise, the score is closer to 80's action scores with shades of Morricone. Jordan & Thompson are good, but Stallone really knocks it out of the park. His performance is very restrained and sad.

A flawed, by-the-books script seriously elevated by directorial vision; legitimately, bafflingly stellar cinematography; and perfect performances. It doesn't have the inspiring rhythm of Stallone's films, but that's probably the point.

The kid quotes Godfather but the wrong one. Her should've used the "they pulled me back in..". Because this feels like GF3 with Rocky. I think we should all be thankful as Rocky has a boy not girl.

Crowd-pleasing and typical. Coogler is obviously talented, but this doesn't really do him justice. Still, not a bad theater experience. Lots of people shouting at the screen, yelling stuff like "oh SHIT!!!" or "get him, GET HIM!!!"

I have such great affection for this series and if Rocky 6 was a great final chapter focusing on the character and his boxing career, this is a note-perfect epilogue. Even though Stallone always had a handle on how to play (and sometimes write) Rocky, he was always a bit iffy as a director. Having someone behind the camera with real talent and a true love for the history of Rocky makes it feel special, even though it's still a Rocky movie through and through and thus you know how it all ends.

Solid, but nothing you haven't seen many times before. For some reason the first fight was masterfully shot (in one take) and had a fantastic choreography, while the final fight didn't even come close and was both unrealistic and lame.

As a big Rocky fan, its hard not to like this movie. It had the rocky feel to it. It could have been better tough. The hate towards the villain wasnt big enough and the fact that he was british and wearing west ham outfits was kind of corny. Still a pretty good film!

Creed surprises us all by being nearly as good as the original. The final fight is arguably the best of the series, and the film oozes a strong and effective father/son motif. Anchored by solid performances by Stallone and Jordan, the film is one of 2015s best.

Talk of it being anywhere near as good as "Rocky" is clearly insane, but one of the series finest moments this certainly is. Coogler rather impressively revitalises a franchise that has no right to keep existing and brings the best performance out of Sly since "Copland". The relationships work, the fights work, the slightly grittier tone works, and perhaps most impressive is how comfortable "Creed" feels referencing and riffing on the original. It's very good, not amazing, but very good.

The fight scenes here - inside the ring at least - are perhaps the most authentic we've ever seen on the big screen; unfortunately the rest of this Rocky-lite production is more forgettable. Stallone still stands out most amongst this cast, perhaps because Jordon doesn't get an opportunity to really flex his acting chops until late on. There's plenty of 'filler' too (e.g. every scene with the girlfriend) yet the opportunity isn't taken to use this to develop Creed's character or the story.

I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves with the "as good as the original" talk, its too melodramatic and cliched for that. However it is a major step up from the last five films following the original and sees its best installment of director and actor of the series.

This is the best boxing movie ever, for its kinetic fight scenes, for its perfect direction, and for the incredible way it builds on the Rocky mythology. The fluidity of the camerawork in the long takes, the way it moves seamlessly from closeup to two shots to master shot without cutting, is incredible. Great acting, great story, great film making.

Michael B Jordan has made me cry numerous times in the two films I have seen him in. I saw this movie on a plane, and though there is research out there stating one is more likely to cry when watching a movie on a plane, I think it was more due to Michael B Jordan's acting skills. There are a few cheesy moments, but for the most part the attempts to hit your emotions land successfully. I also enjoyed the boxing scenes in this film. by the numbers boxing drama, could've been a homework in screenwriting class. everyone fights his own little battle, everyone ends up being a hero. every problem that is set up is solved in its following sequence. what a ride. it's also a tough nut to translate original rocky's depiction of professional boxing into our time without completely discarding its "laws", but a boxing movie with 12 rounds of "no-guard face smashing" in 2015 just doesn't cut it anymore.

It's a pretty decent film. It's quite conventional and predictable, but that's what I expected. Michael B. Jordan was good, and Sylvester Stallone proved he can still give a great performance. The boxing scenes were really well shot, but I thought some of the direction and editing choices in the other scenes were a little questionable. I liked it, and I'm glad it wasn't a TOTAL nostalgia cash-grab.

The inspiring performances are the main draw: Michael B. Jordan evinces empathy and ferocity, while Stallone brings the typical pathos and homespun humor that we expect from Rocky Balboa. Even so, this is a paint-by-numbers script--the first in the ROCKY series that wasn't penned by Stallone, and thus the film doesn't quite match the quirky, tranquil spirit of the beloved palooka; it's macho bravado all the way. This is basically SOUTHPAW with a Balboa connection.

While not the best of the Rocky series it's still surprisingly good. This seems like a remake/reboot/sequel specifically from the first and fifth Rocky films. Stallone was awesome and Michael B. Jordan wasn't half bad. There were a lot of thing I didn't like but they really didn't hurt the movie much.

Almost a knock-out. Definitely one of the better spin-offs to come out of Hollywood in recent times. Old Sylvester Stallone is awesome! Overall Creed (2015) got a cool vibe of love, passion, respect and rawness. Perhaps a bit too positive in defeat, but along with Southpaw (2015) shows that boxing films still got a powerful punch in Hollywood!

A surprisingly good performance by Stallone, and what should have been a serious Oscar contender for main actor Michael B. Jordan and the director Ryan Coogler. The only actor I didn't like in this movie was Tessa Thompson, who played Creed's girlfriend. An otherwise enjoyable movie with an equally great soundtrack.

Creed is a superb sports film and even greater story. Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone give the performances of their respective careers. I do not think I have ever seen a sports film more wonderfully directed than Creed. Coogler did a wonderful job with the fight scenes, building tension and refusing to cut away from the action. He already set the stakes up for the fight, but that wasn't enough. Coogler did more, and succeeded in creating one of my favorite sports films of all time.

Hot damn! We have a winner. Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler, 29, turbocharges the Rocky franchise in Creed. His focus: Adonis Johnson (a stellar Michael B. Jordan), the bastard son of late champ Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), the father he never knew. The kid needs Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) to train him. Just enough plot for Jordan to strut his impressive stuff, and for a never-better Stallone to play the aging boxer with more feeling than I've seen from him since the original.

Maybe just MY bad luck/mood but yet another film that hype/reviews -> expect greatness & was only good Over-rated. Totally solid unobjectionable sport, & finding oneself, movie. Seen as a sequel 2 Rocky IV it is clearly HUGE improvement ;-) Cast totally solid & believable. Plot fine. Stallone acting @ top of his game. Nothing bad 2 say. Yet was led 2 expect amazing film topping Rocky & set franchise afire again. I did NOT see that film. Lower expectations & enjoy accordingly
