Crime + Punishment

Sometimes I have a hard time reviewing documentaries because I'm less interested in how it's shot than I am the information that it gives. Obviously telling your narrative in a compelling way helps, but I look more for docs to break ground, shine light on issues that might not be known. Because of my criticism of the system in which police operate this is a must-see in my eyes, and this does a great job of getting two different but related stories across.

Absorbing and engrossing document of pernicious police corruption is brilliantly observed and crafted by Maing; unfolds like a great, tragic crime drama with some unexpected twists and turns. Unexpectedly sympathetic and even-handed in its portrait of the officers themselves, but unflinching in its portrait of decay from the top.

Important on many levels and ridiculously overlooked. Both inspires hope and disappointment in the human race, but the hope and courage is what is highlighted more prominently by the end.
