A pair of whacked-out cartoon-like exterminator/hitmen kill the owner of a burglar-alarm company, and stalk the partner who hired them, his wife, and a nerd framed for the murder, who tells the story in flashback from the electric chair.

For fans of Sam Raimi, this is perhaps the long lost film you never knew you wanted with every aching bone in your body. Insanity abounds; they went all out with this production despite its set backs. I hope this gets rediscovered with Sam Raimi's new found success with Spider-Man, because this is certainly a diamond in the rough.

Raimi, Coens and Campbell all in one movie would usually mean great things. It had some good slapstick comedy but its not anything memorable. Worth the watch but I would only recommend to fans of Raimi.

Fraco, um filme com roteiro dos Coen e direção do Sam Raimi mas que parece ter sido feito por crianças de 10 anos... Caricato demais, bobo demais, irritante demais.

Well it wasn't the best, but at least Raimi has improved with time.

I honestly believe that Bruce Campbell cameos can cure cancer. Don't believe me? Watch this movie then! Also, I think that cinema needs more children tossing, but it might be just me. Do you agree? Let me know.

Even when it's a lousy slapstick that they didn't direct, the Coens still manage to have some cool-looking atmospheric lighting. How do they do it.

Viewed October 9, 2021. Sam Raimi's second feature is his most direct version of a live action cartoon, an absurd neo-noir filled with goofy character types and visual gags like, for example, Bruce Campbell's cigarette smoke curling up and transforming into a dancing lady. It's often as annoying as it is inspired - a balance that Raimi would figure out by the time of his next film, Evil Dead II - but I appreciate the movie's steadfast commitment to a very alienating vision.

It's easy to see how a collaborative effort between the Coen's and Raimi would end up such a weird mix in ideas. To be honest there were many times during this movie where I could have sworn I was watching a cartoon. I can easily say that everyone involved has done better, but it was nothing like this...

Good elements. Problems in production apparently affected final result.

Directed by Raimi an co-written by the Coens you would think this a forgotten jewel made by these talents. Alas it isn't so. This is a broad comedy which plays like a zany whacky cartoon with a lot of physical comedy like the Three Stooges. Biggest problem is that is just painfully unfunny. Best about it is that it does move in a breathtaking pace and has a few sharp ideas. It is an interesting failure, whose most positive effect is that it teached those involved what doesn't work.

It's such a shame that the most direct Rami X Coen Brothers collaboration is best summed up by the word "annoying," but the more you look into the disastrous behind-the-scenes of Crimewave, the more it becomes clear why it turned out as awful as it did. It would be fascinating to have seen Raimi and the Coens make this later on in their careers, instead it goes down as the potential career low for all involved

Both Coen and Raimi elements are there, but lost in the urban jungle. I guess they had much fun doing this movie, I didn't.

Slap-stick humour and some surreal scenes which directly lifted from the old cartoons. Yet it almost works - it's occasionally very funny, the mood and setting are dark, and there's some decent performances.

Not that good but that chase scene near the end is pretty funny. Like how a car is parked on the road just to get crashed in to

This film certainly does not take it self seriously. The script is wacky at times like a cartoon. However not everything works in the script. Overall this one is a miss.

Terrible. Since Raimi was making good movies at the time, and this has his typically inventive cinematography, I'm going to attribute this failure to the Coens' moronic script.

With a stellar trio of filmmakers and a production that sounds like hell, it is no surprise that Crimewave is a mixed bag. The movie is almost one single set piece filled with mayhem and Looney Tunes action. While I laughed and loved some of the art design, I did find myself straight up irritated at times. Brion James goes HARD and its grating.
