Cripple Creek

1952
Western
1h 18m
Government agent Bret Ivers (George Montgomery) goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of gold smugglers. Ivers and his two partners (Jerome Courtland and Richard Egan) face exposure and sudden death at every turn; indeed, one of the federal agents meets his demise before the film is a third over. The villains are the erudite-but-deadly Denver Jones (John Dehner) and the just-plain-deadly Silver Kirby (William Bishop). (allrovi.com)

Delivers what a western delivers. Had a polished look too. But my main thing with Cripple Creek (1952), was that it came across bland. George Montgomery was a rugged hero, but even with that, the film has very little identity of its own. Just cowboys doing what cowboys so in movies, and little to enhance that from going in one eye and out the other.
