If you haven't seen the Polish poster for this movie, look it up. Even if you hate the movie you may want to pick up a 11X17 of that baby.

Didn't bat an eye at lil critters hijacking a spaceship on an asteroid prison run by an alien with penis ears, or bounty hunters melting into new faces, but ... Billy Zane is sporting a curly mullet rat tail nightmare thing.

Although allegedly written before "Gremlins"(1984), this fun sci-fi B-movie didn't get made until after "New Line Cinema" saw for a chance to ca$h-in, and hopefully franchise these in vogue little creatures. However even despite that the film has its share of "Gremlins" parallels, it is unique enough with its story and weird sci-fi elements to make it stand on its own as a solid sci-fi/horror-comedy B-movie.

As a kid I always loved the looks of the Critters themselves, and I'm actually surprised at how bland the first movie is. The only really good (and hilarious) part is the moment where the Critters blow up the main characters' house, just because they can. What a dick move.

Seemed better in the 80's. The Chiodo Brothers do fine work with the effects and creature designs on a limited budget, but Herek's uneven direction saps the energy right out of it at crucial moments, and the atmosphere isn't strong enough to justify the slowish pace. The fact that it has a sense of humour about itself would have been more of a virtue if the jokes were funnier, although subtitling the critters' dialogue was a good move that promotes a few laughs.

Finally saw this one. It's not great but is pretty entertaining. Not sure if i'll entertain the sequels.

1950s horror is to 1980s horror as 1980s horror is to 2010s horror. In 2040, every movie will be It Follows. Wait, too 80s? Shit, I guess The Devil's Candy then? Anyway, Critters is best as just another example of boomer nostalgia permeating 80s culture. The Blob was way better, and Lifeforce was British enough to at least be exotic.Critters though? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...the 1985 Twilight Zone is on DVD now.

A relatively fun creature movie that I would have enjoyed more as a kid but liked well enough as an adult. In many ways it's pretty stupid but it's got a fast pace and low runtime which helps prevent ever really feeling bored. Not too funny for being a horror comedy though. Critters themselves have very good design and the first shape shifting bounty hunter scene is pretty good effects considering budget restraints.

A mid-80s sci-fi horror comedy that, stupid as it may be at times, is endlessly entertaining and over the top. A deadly breed of space critters come to Earth to feast on sentient life, finding their would-be fodder in the form of a Smalltown USA farm family. They're pursued by interstellar bounty hunters, and though the movie starts slowly (with a space sequence that would have looked bad even in '86), things pick up on Earth, with good humour, strong tension and exciting action. It's fun stuff.

One of the better _Gremlins_ cash-ins. Good budget FX by the Chiodo Brothers (who would follow this up with the much more outrageous _Killer Klowns from Outer Space_) and a fun cast having a good time make this the best of its creatively limited series.

Silly and rather charmless. Compared to the soul-draining unwatchability of the third and fourth installments, however, it's pretty harmless.

GENERAL HEALTH WARNING: DO NOT WATCH ALL FOUR CRITTERS MOVIES BACK TO BACK - The first Critters movie is simply a poor mans Gremlins with very little memorable about it.

As far as horror movies involving non-human things (using robotics) as the antagonists, this is actually pretty well done. Franted, it's not Child's Play or Alien, but I'm sure the budget wasn't nearly as high for this one, and it still remained squarely above average fare.

"Critters" is one of those rare movies that comes along that, despite all odds against it, manages to strike just the right chord. A little-monsters mix of scifi, horror, and comedy, the film uses its low budget as part of its charm. It's not a great film, but it's still a fun way to spend an hour and a half. Just don't expect the same magic from the sequels.

A well done sci-fi terror movie that is actually scary, original and has some dose of humour. Besides some outdated gender stereotypes, this movie is very good in it's genre. And is quite short, so for sure worth a watch.

Full-on Gremlins rip-off, but with bigger gremlins. Works for what it is, but not so much for me as an entertaining flick. Had few-and-far-between moments of comedy, little to no horror above cheap Grudge-like tricks... probably wouldn't watch this again unless I was paid.

Low-budget Gremlins rip off with no memorable scenes to speak of. It does feature a Billy Zane cameo as 'The Dork from New York', but... it's not worth it.

Slightly above average 80's horror flick.Tho theres yet again a lack of a substantial budget, the effects are still sort of good, tho often very campy. The script is of course, insanely ridiculous but the decent acting and directing make up for that. Unfortunately theres not a whole lot of blood/gore (nor suspense), sort of a Disney horror movie, on par with Leprechaun or Chucky , but still not bad for a horror flick.Overall entertaining. For the fans.

Featuring some solid performances as well as awesome creature design & effects courtesy of the Chiodo Brothers, it's still plagued by a messy script that's trying very hard to be clever & not doing a good job of it, while also being quite jumbled in its ideas & execution. The Critters rarely feel like an actual threat, the first act is painfully slow, & the Charlie character is a bit of an issue. Still, there are enough fun moments & odd charm to make for a good time. Worth a look.

Lame, but deserves some points for sheer front. I mean they are balls of fur that locomote as if punted from off screen. Victims appear as though they are being mauled by an errant bouffant. I guess in the decade of big hair they thought they could get away with this. I'm not happy about copping out on destroying the house, that was the best part. Oh, and three sequels. Three fucking sequels! Wow...
